Local area network (LAN) video game parties have been around for quite some time, but over the years, they've evolved into a new type of competitive sport – eSports.
Demand has been so high and tournaments have become so popular that they've given rise to plush new gaming venues like the one at Landmark Recreation Center in Peoria. The LANmark eSports and Gaming Center is actually a former movie theater that has been converted into a deluxe, high-tech gaming center with an array of built-in consoles, screens and all the amenities that serious gamers want and professional gamers need.
Journal Star sports editor Wes Huett talked with LANmark co-owner Brandon Pence about the new facility in our latest Journal Star Sportswriters podcast.
