  • ImaginePublicity & Author STEVE JACKSON, No Stone Unturned
Join the show for an in depth discussion with New York Times best-selling author Steve Jackson and the updated release of his book, No Stone Unturned from WildBlue Press.
"Jackson recreates the genesis of NecroSearch International as a small eclectic group of scientists and law enforcement who volunteered their services to help locate the clandestine graves of murder victims and recover the remains and evidence to assist with the apprehension and conviction of the killers. Known early on as “The Pig People” because of their experiments in locating graves using the carcasses of pigs (because of their similarities to human bodies), NecroSearch has evolved and expanded into one of the most respected forensic investigation teams in the world."

  • WRITERS TRICKS OF THE TRADE - USING CHARACTERS' PROFESSIONS IN UNUSUAL WAYS
Selecting professions for your characters and deciding how they would act under a given set of circumstances is one of the most important decisions a fiction writer can make. Will they respond in a way normally expected of someone trained to do what they do? Will they go “over-the-top” or perform in a scared or devious manner? Each reaction is the basis for an entirely different story. Whether it is positive or negative, once the theme choice is made, the character still operates under the umbrella of their profession.

  • WRITERS TRICKS OF THE TRADE - USING CHARACTERS' PROFESSIONS IN UNUSUAL WAYS
Selecting professions for your characters, and deciding how they would act under a given set of circumstances, is one of the most important decisions a fiction writer can make.
Will they respond in a way normally expected of someone trained to do what they do? Will they go “over-the-top” or perform in a scared or devious manner?
Each reaction might become the basis for an entirely different story. However, once the theme choice is made, even if they act strangely, unexpectedly or inappropriately, the character still operates under the umbrella of their profession, whether it is positive or negative.
Morgan, Denny and Eric explore what happens with the same set of circumstances when the character reacts in a way that is not typical to their profession. The story changes and one scenario can be played out many ways. Ninja hairdresser, anyone?

We are delighted to have author/musician Jon D'Amore back as our guest. So many authors today are making the choice between traditional and self-publishing that we thought it would be very helpful to have Jon discuss why he opted to self-publish his humorous yet edgy memoir, and as an added bonus he will read an excerpt from his book.
Jon successfully published and marketed "The Boss ALWAYS Sits in the Back" and will share factors that entered into making the decision to self-publish and what he did relative to publicity and promotion.

One that Jon became involved in as a young man.  This scam changed history and gambling laws across America forever!
He tells the story from his viewpoint as a young musician who grew up in that world...and from the words of his Godfather, an underboss who told his story before he died..."The Boss ALWAYS Sits In The Back" details the demise of the mobsters who ran northern New Jersey.

  • Shattered Lives: Reversal of Parole, Connecticut Cop Killer
Join Host,Donna R. Gore, and guest Attorney Michelle S. Cruze.
The sound of "Amazing Grace" played by a lone bagpiper resonated as a line of  Connecticut law enforcement officers honored the family of slain police officer, Robert Holcomb, as they left a victorious parole hearing for the person responsible for his murder.
In 1977  Gerald "Gary" Castonguay was convicted of shooting Officer Holcomb to death, and in January 2015, without notice to Holcomb's family, the Connecticut Pardon and Parole Board granted him parole beginning in July.
Not only was the family outraged at this decision, but also fellow officers and the general public who campaigned through letters, emails, and calls to oppose Castonguay's release.
Granted a new hearing, the family was able to express their injustice and the parole was rescinded.

  • F IS FOR FACTS - Writers Tricks of the Trade - Episode 12
In the old Dragnet show, Sgt. Joe Friday used to say, "The facts, ma'am, only the facts." But when a writer is creating a book or story part of their process is making sure to check facts, particularly when they are setting out a particular set of circumstances. If you get it wrong, some of your readers will know and possibly spread the word. The internet is a wonderful source of information, but if you can't find what you want, let your fingers do the walking. Once you've figured out who might have the information you need, pick up the phone and call. It might be a friend, or the public relations division of a police department, hospital, public entity or any number of possibilities. When Morgan St. James was writing "Betrayed," she needed to know what would happen in the late 1950s if an inmate in an Illinois prison was beaten to a point where they had to be on lifesupport. The information was not readily available on the internet, so she called the public relations department at the prison in Illinois and discovered her answer, The Public Relations officer researched her and called back with the information that the policy had changed over the years. What would have happened now, wasn't the cae then. Back then the inmate would have been kept in the prison infirmary. So, St. James was able to portray the scene correctly for the era.
Okay, let's assume you've got the facts, details and any other pertinent information. How much does your reader REALLY want to know? Are you overwriting and boring them with details fans of your genre really are not interested in?Is the technical information much more than they care to read? Do they want the story to just keep moving?
In a lively discussion authors Morgan St. James, Dennis N. Griffin and Eric James Miller will share their knowledge and experience when it comes to, "Just the facts, ma'am."
