In 1969, life-long resident Kress Query became the 12th Mayor of the Town of Matthews. Since then, Kress has made an immeasurable impact on our town, including playing a key role in the development of the Town's first zoning ordinance. The Query Family can trace their roots in Matthews back to the 1700's and they're descendants of an individual who signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (Meck Dec), prior to the national Declaration.
Jim recently sat down to have a conversation with Kress to talk about growing up in Matthews, the creation of the Veteran's Advisory Committee, the historical preservation of the Reid House and his induction into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
