This week, The Roundtable dove into the strong performances of the past week from both Rutgers Women's Lacrosse and Rutgers Baseball. As Women's Lacrosse upset then No.6 Stony Brook on April 12, they also beat Vermont 15-7 to hold a two-game winning streak in a span of seven days. Baseball on the other hand has won six of its last seven, that includes a Big Ten series win over Michigan from April 14-16.
Our hosts today; Alex Carmenaty and Christian Vazquez went into it all, as each team had historic performances during this time frame. Sophia Cardello led the charge for Women's Lacrosse, as the junior goalkeeper recorded 19 saves in back-to-back wins. Against Stony Brook, she made a record 12 saves against the team that ended Rutgers' season the past two years. Cardello joined the show to recap her week and see where this momentum can carry the team into their final games of the regular season.
Rutgers Baseball has been on a tear in the heart of April with six wins in seven games, and three wins in the team's last four Big Ten matchups. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a series win vs Michigan, which happens to be the first in-conference series won by the team this year. The team also won out of conference games in mid-week matchups against the likes of Seton Hall, Marist and Monmouth. Freshmen Christian Coppola led the charge on April 14th, when he went eight innings: recording 12 strikeouts and allowing five hits in a 13-0 win for Rutgers. Coppola for his efforts was awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the week. He joined the show to recap his efforts, as he and the program look ahead to a series this weekend at Northwestern.
As both teams are coming off a strong week, they each look to build off of it into May and possibly June throughout the rest of the spring season.
