For over 25 years, Erika has been flying, backpacking, caving, diving, camping, and rappelling. To fund her passion, she’s worked as a flight instructor, corporate pilot, and firefighter/ EMT.
In 2005, she threw herself head first into the corporate-rut as a commercial real estate broker. Working 80 hours a week, without days off forcing her to the brink of insanity. In 2008, she began blogging as a form of mental escape. The more she wrote, the more she knew something had to change.
By 2009, she was back out on the trails, kayaking and crawling around in caves again, learning to live on less money and more efficiently managing her business to allow more freedom.
On this episode, Erika shares what life was like growing up sailing and learning how to fly planes at a young age. Erika also shares how she fell into the trap of being consumed by work but how she was able to get herself out of it. Finally, Erika gives advice to others on how they can build a life that combines work and passion. In 2010, he joined a team of experts who employ cutting edge techniques to understand the ecology of the world’s most important fish.
Since then, he has been elected a National Geographic Young Explorer and become a member of the Explorer’s Club. His expeditions have ranged from sailing the remote Pacific to understand coral reefs to tagging sharks in Sudan.
He is now pursuing his doctoral degree in Oceanography at MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution where he explores the relationship between the movements of large, open ocean fish and the physical, chemical, and biological environment they inhabit.
On this episode we discuss:
1. How Camrin fell in love with the ocean.
