The contemporary definition of a "good" or "healthy" body has been centuries in the making, but as Jessica Wilson writes in her forthcoming book, It's Always Been Ours (Hachette, February 2023), "the pure, moral, rule-abiding body has never, ever, been a Black woman's."

As a social justice activist whose work centers on Black women and as a woman with multiple marginalized identities (chronically disabled and queer woman), Jessica's goal is to end this harm.

Through social and historical analysis, sharing her own learning and unlearning about nutrition, and contemporary storytelling, Wilson makes the case that "Health" and "Wellness" are exclusive social constructs that don't serve any of us.
