John Alexander Lawson had a difficult upbringing growing up; struggling with various mental disorders and a constantly shifting environment meant that he rarely found a place he could call home. As he grew older, he began to take a fascination with the occult as a way of rebelling against the conservative nature of his community, covering his body in tattoos, filing down his teeth to resemble fangs, and even doing away with cleaning himself in the belief that filth gave him powers.

But what was perhaps even more concerning, was the fact that he actually started to draw a cult following.
