On the heels of White House advisor Stephen Miller’s positive COVID test earlier this week, today Esty sits down with journalist Jean Guerrero to talk about her new book on Miller, Hatemonger.
They discuss Miller’s white supremacist ideology and how he stokes white fear and rage (including the recent news that a terrorist group planned to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer), the influence of leftist-radical-cum-rightwing-radical David Horowitz, and Miller’s role in some of the Trump administration’s most racist policies, including the Muslim travel ban and family separation at the border.
“Miller’s story is America’s story,” says Jean Guerrero. “He’s not an aberration or a lone individual doing all this stuff in the White House completely out of nowhere—he is the logical outcome of a decades-long bipartisan assault on communities of color, particularly immigrants.”
Jean Guerrero is an award-winning investigative journalist and author of Hatemonger: Stephen Miller, Donald Trump and the White Nationalist Agenda (William Morrow, 2020). Her first book, Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir (One World, 2018) won a PEN Literary Award.
