This was an emergency meeting due to COVID-19. Along with answering questions about the coronavirus, Commissioner Shannon Whitfield signed two resolutions waiving certain penalties and interest associated with past due personal property and hotel-motel taxes. The waiver is good through July 31st. The deadline to apply for a 2020 business license without being penalized was also been extended to July 31st.

Commissioner Shannon Whitfield issued Proclamations in support of Census Pledge Week, Down Syndrome Awareness and Multiple Myeloma Awareness.

The meeting also included the signing of the 2020 road paving contract and review of February department statistics.

Commissioner Whitfield amended the county's Alcohol ordinance to clean up some language dealing with licensing fees, rejected a resolution calling for a vote on changing distance requirements for alcohol sales at restaurants, approved a resolution calling for a vote on SPLOST, review department statistics and other county business matters.

Walker County residents will notice a significant investment in the county’s road system this summer. Contractor bids are now being accepted to make improvements to 36 miles of roads in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Prior to the Regular Meeting, a Public Hearing was held on a proposed amendment to the County's Alcohol Ordinance. The amendment would make Walker County more business friendly by removing a distance requirement that goes beyond state requirements. Another Public Hearing was held on several zoning requests.
