When leaders fail to duplicate themselves in others, it reveals a white-knuckle grip on position rather than a commitment to organizational growth. Contrast this with General Norman Schwarzkopf's practice of "walking slowly through crowds"—deliberately slowing his pace to create space for meaningful interactions with those under his command.
