In an apparently shocking contrast, Jesus calls out the religious insiders for hypocrisy and exposes their sin, while ultimately welcoming an outsider who comes to him in humble faith. He makes it clear that religious ritual is worthless as a means to cleanse from sin. Only humble faith in the Son of David has any power. Where have religion and ritual become a mask for sin in our lives? Are we casting ourselves solely upon the mercy of Jesus for our cleansing and acceptance before God?

Join us on Live in the Light as we continue our sermon series walking through the book of 2 Corinthians. In this passage, we walk through the ingredients of a clear conscience—sincerity of character, integrity in words, and purity of heart. Our conscience is a warning system for our hearts; it detects the things in our lives that do not honour the Lord. Sin, on the other hand, hardens our hearts, sometimes to the point that our conscience no longer warns us of the danger it brings. Paul was able to defend his integrity because he had a clear conscience—and a clear conscience is powerful. By God’s grace, we too can experience the freedom of a clear conscience through Christ. Pastor Robbie Symons is in 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:4.

In this radio broadcast summary, Rick Alvis, a regional coordinator for the City Gate Network, discusses his decades of ministry experience and the vital, Christ-centered work rescue missions perform across North America. He shares that City Gate is an association connecting roughly 335 missions across the United States and Canada, where his role involves coaching and supporting leaders in the Great Lakes region. Reflecting on his past as the long-time executive director of Wheeler Mission and the Evansville Rescue Mission, Alvis highlights powerful transformation stories—such as a man who overcame addiction and whose children found renewed hope—emphasizing that the foundational mission of these organizations remains anchored in the gospel of Christ to change lives.
