  • IJ006 Aparigraha, Non-Possessiveness and How to Detach and Create Space Between Ourselves and Our Thoughts
Aparigraha, Non-Possessiveness and How to Detach and Create Space Between Ourselves and Our Thoughts

Casey and Erin talk about different ways we attach to possessions, thoughts, situations, energy, and so forth. We start by how to become aware of our mental luggage and detach from it. We live in our lives with at least 50% more than what we actually need. Aparigraha invites us to let go and to pack lightly for our journey through life and all the while caring deeply and enjoying fully.

Erin explains how the breath is a beautiful example of how possessiveness can harm us. Although an inhale can be nourishing and give us what we need, we need to release the breath and have faith that the next breath will come just as easily.

As humans we have a tendency to develop attachments to the things that give us pleasure. Sometimes to the point of harm. We form these attachments out of fear and avoidance. We want to keep the good feeling going and avoid anything unpleasant.

Much like the moment when the breath is completely exhaled, the trapeze artist has a moment when they are suspended in mid-air. If we hold on too long, we miss out on the moment.

Our expectation keep us captive and often disgruntled, and yet we choose our attachment rather than our freedom.

Erin talks about handstands and how taking the journey inward has helped her develop her practice. She imagines creating a love net as she kicks up and having that faith that the strength is there, the technique is developed and things will fall into place as they’re meant to.

Anything we cling to creates extra work in our lives until we are living to maintain the “things.” If we travel light we have more energy and freedom to apply to things that really matter. Our lives can open up in amazing ways.

Casey tells the story about when she moved to Florida and how she took a leap of faith and let go of all her things except a few small items. She learned the lesson of how little we really need. Erin shares a story of after her divorce she had 1/10th of her possessions and how she felt so light and free. Both hosts talk about how cleaning out our closets literally opens us up to invite in fresh energy.

  • IJ005 Special Guest Suyin Nichols, Author of “Love Yourself Lighter,” on Brahmacharya: Non-Excess Overeating, Overindulgence and a Balanced Life.
Suyin Nichols, “Love Yourself Lighter,” on Brahmacharya: Non-Excess Overeating, Overindulgence and a Balanced Life

Suyin Nichols author of “Love Yourself Lighter: How to End Your Weight Struggle by Changing the Way You Think,” is our special guest to discuss non-excess and how to love ourselves as we change our habits. We discuss the value of treating everything as if it were sacred and why we move past the point of just enough and into the realm of excess.

We over do so much in our lives. We over do food, sex, work, alcohol, indulgences, and thinking. It’s the more we live in excess that we feel ever more empty and needing.

We find that love is in the details and if we adopt an artful approach to life, we can enjoy life more fully. If we place ourselves a little higher on the priority list, we will find that our lives change for the better and we actually have more energy and time to share with others.

We discuss how Suyin’s book is not your typically weight-loss book. It’s written more like a love letter to yourself. We learn how by changing the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us, we really shift our reality.

We learn how to uncover faulty belief systems that cause us an underlying unease. When we have this unease, typically we cover up that feeling with living in excess, but we don’t really address the cause. If we give every part of ourselves away and only leave scraps for ourselves, we will feel deprived and tend to fill ourselves to excess.

You’ll never take care of yourself or your body if you hate it. When you allow yourself to like who you are, you start to heal. It’s ok to like who you are. It’s ok to give ourselves a higher opinion of ourselves and be grateful.

When gratitude and wonder sit in the heart, there is no room for excess.

In addition to this, Suyin shares some tools we can apply in our daily lives around eating such as the stop light method. She also shares with us some of her daily routines to bring peace and balance in life, and come present.

  • IJ004 Special Guest Eleni Sokos on Self Growth and Discovery
Eleni Sokos on Self Growth and Discovery

In this episode Casey and Erin discuss Asteya, non-stealing from the book, The Yamas and Niyamas by Deborah Adele.

When we are engaged in the joy and challenge of building ourselves, we automatically serve the world rather than steal from it. We have special guest Eleni Sokos, local leader in the community and owner of Sokos Social a Digital Marketing Firm. She shares her story about her journey from the fast track towards law school to completely changing her path towards what she was passionate about. Eleni also talks about showing restraint to allow others to shine on her team. She shares the importance of community and how we build by sharing, encouraging, and sharing our passions together.

“If we are living in fears and lies our dissatisfaction with ourselves and our lives lead us to look outward with a tendency to steal what is not rightfully ours. We steal from others, we steal from the Earth, we steal from the future and we steal from ourselves. We steal from our own opportunity to grow ourselves into the person who has the right to have the life want.”

Casey shares that showing up and being ourselves is a gift to the world. If we are not giving, we are stealing in a sense. We are meant to lift others up and share.

Eleni gives a testimonial about the power of coaching and shifting perspective by looking inward. Before you help others, you must help yourself. She mentions she used to steal her energy, time, and thoughts by trying to do it all and by allowing others to help and share in her journey she has grown tremendously.

You turn into what you want to be by believing what you are. We can dim our own light or we can add wood chips to the fire and shine brighter. What ever you think you are, you are correct and if you keep practicing being real and being yourself, you get better at it. It builds up those neural pathways and we create evidence for ourselves that we can achieve what we put our minds to our we can become the person we dream to be.

  • IJ003 The Yamas and Niyamas: Satya
    The Yamas and Niyamas: Satya

In this episode Casey and Erin discuss the second Yama, Satya: Truthfulness with special guest and energy worker, Reverend Jayme Westrom. Jayme talks about how to remove emotional blockages from our energy fields and how these blocks can affect our relationships and how we carry ourselves in the world. These energies are stored as frequencies in the amygdala in the brain and if we do not remove or correct these frequencies they can stay with us our entire life.

Casey and Erin continue to dive into truthfulness and its importance in our lives. It takes courage to look at ourselves and question the things we once thought were true, but perhaps are not true for us currently.

Telling the truth or “keeping your side of the street clean” is not always easy.Truth is not always safe, it is good. Sometimes it can leave us shaking in our boots, but ultimately, it makes our lives easier to apply truthfulness as best we can in our daily living.

Jayme shares a story of her son who took a bead from a local metaphysical shop and how she made a choice to turn around and drive back to the store to show her son the importance of telling the truth, as well as taking accountability for our actions.

Later in the show we have Sue calling in from Pathways to Successful Living Seminars. She discusses her story of how we can work through our past experiences by bringing awareness to them and questioning the beliefs we had been carrying with us for decades.

Erin speaks about how inviting truth in helps to carry our character with integrity. Casey chimes in with, “All you have in this world is integrity and that’s all you die with.”

Shedding our outer shell of false illusions is a process, but it’s all in the process of growth so we can continue to be true to who we are now. The more release concepts of the who we think we should be or who we were, we can more authentically step into the light of who we really are.

  • IJ002 Yamas and Niyamas, Ahimsa in Yoga Practice, Self-Love, Self-Acceptance and Self-Study.
Yamas and Niyamas, Ahimsa in Yoga Practice, Self-Love, Self-Acceptance and Self-Study

In this episode, Erin and Casey start their discussion about the Yamas and Niyamas by Deborah Adele. Our first Yama is Ahimsa (non-violence) and how that process starts with us. We are the change we wish to see in the world. Erin discusses how if we choose to hang on to anger and withhold love, we harm ourselves the most. This Yama sets up the foundation for us to serve the world in the highest way. This also starts the process of self acceptance and unconditional self love.

We also explore how we feel on the inside will be reflected in our actions on the outside. So when we choose to allow love to flow and work on ourselves, that vibration ripples out. When we learn to take care of ourselves, we can fully express ourselves and our passions.

Erin says, if you’re seeking a Guru, “If you resonate with a redhead, that’s a little disgruntled that practices yoga and curses sometimes, hey maybe I’m here for you.”

Casey discusses self-love and full acceptance more in depth.

“When was the last time you stood in front of a mirror and you looked at yourself and you loved everything you saw.” Casey goes on to elaborate that it’s not about us, it’s for the greater good, but we get to benefit.

Both hosts go on to explore the value of self-study and questions we ask ourselves. Sometimes questions like, “What’s wrong with you?” can exist under the radar. When we draw awareness to questions like this we can change the question to something more like, “What’s amazing about me?” The brain is always capable of change, and Erin discusses how the patterns we develop take some effort to change, but hey, we are here anyways and most of us are not short of hard work.

  • IJ001 Journeys Towards Authenticity, a Course in Miracles and Being a Great Leader.
Journeys Towards Authenticity, a Course in Miracles and Being a Great Leader.

In this episode, Casey Hoffman and Erin Geraghty introduce themselves and tell their stories about what brought them to pursue an inspired journey. We learn about Erin’s martial arts background, yoga studio, and some entertaining stories about her past. Casey chimes in with her background and study on A Course in Miracles and how the experience hugely impacted her shift towards a spiritual path.

Erin shares a story about how her bond with her Karate Sensei and how it shaped who she is today. One particularly amusing story she shares about when she was training for her black belt and after having an emotional tantrum, her Sensei chases after her to bring her back to the dojo. That moment was one where she realized how cared about she was as well as she possessed an inner strength that she didn’t realize existed until that moment. Sometimes in our darkest moments or in our struggles is when we find some light to illuminate our path.

We also discuss our mentors and how they reflected the space we were in at the time and that we are the product of our last 5 years.

Erin continues to tell people about how her studio Thrive Yoga & Fitness came into existence as well as her coaching practice and the process of growth she experienced through the growth of her business. She also introduces her team and how they all work together to raise the vibration of Bradenton, Florida. Having a good team that communicates and works towards the same cause is important and Erin says she works hard to be a good leader because her team deserves a person of caliber to lead them.

Everything is connected and the growth we experience in our personal lives will reflect in our businesses and relationships, as Erin and Casey continue to discuss. The struggles and challenges of the past were just lessons and stepping stones that made us a little stronger and wiser for the present.
