What we trust shapes how we live, and that includes how we use the resources God has entrusted to us. In Week 2 of Gospel Culture, we explore Paul’s teaching on joyful generosity in 2 Corinthians 9:1–15. Rather than giving out of pressure, fear, or obligation, the gospel invites us into a life of generosity rooted in trust in God’s gracious provision. Joyful generosity requires intentional readiness, fuels more joyful generosity, and reminds us that there is always enough to be generous. Ultimately, generosity is not about getting more from God—it is about becoming more like Jesus as we learn to trust Him with our time, money, talents, and resources.

What happens when the gospel changes the way we see what we have? In Revelation 3:14-22, Jesus confronts the church in Laodicea with a powerful reminder: Jesus is the source. He is not simply an addition to our lives or a part of our faith—He is the source of everything we truly need.

Jesus brings the source to us, offering what is of true and lasting value. But when we distance ourselves from Him, our faith can become empty, lukewarm, and even disgusting religion. The invitation of Jesus is not merely to try harder, but to return to the source.

In Revelation 3:7–13, Jesus speaks to the church in Philadelphia and calls them to hold on to Him. When our hope is in Jesus, He is not just part of the story—He is the beginning, middle, and end of our hope. This message explores five things Jesus provides: His provision, His protection, His passion, His power, and ultimately, His person. Whatever we face, we can hold on to Jesus because He is faithful and He is enough.

In Week 5 of Lampstand Letters, we explore Jesus' message to the church in Sardis in Revelation 3:1–6. Though the church had a reputation for being alive, Jesus saw a deeper reality: they were spiritually dead. This sobering message reminds us that Jesus is concerned not just with how we appear to others, but with who we really are.

Yet Jesus doesn't leave His people without hope. Jesus has what we need to be fully alive. Through His call to wake up, remember, and return to what they had received and heard, we discover that moving forward in faith often begins by going back to the truth of the gospel. Jesus invites us to examine our hearts, recover what has been neglected, and live in the fullness of life He provides.

In Revelation 2:18–29, Jesus speaks to the church in Thyatira and reminds His people that He alone defines what faithfulness looks like. Jesus is the standard, and He does not change the standard. In a world that constantly pressures us to redefine truth and compromise our convictions, Jesus calls His church to remain faithful to Him.

But Jesus is not only the standard—He is also the prize. Faithfulness to Jesus is not ultimately about earning something from Him; it is about belonging to Him and discovering that He Himself is better than anything the world can offer. Jesus calls His people to persevere, remain faithful, and hold fast to Him until the end.

In Revelation 2:12–17, Jesus speaks to the church in Pergamum—a church that had remained faithful in a difficult and hostile environment, yet had begun to drift into dangerous compromise. Jesus sees their endurance, but He also lovingly confronts the ways they have allowed the world around them to shape their allegiance.

Following Jesus means more than standing firm when faith is tested; it means wholehearted allegiance to Jesus in every area of our lives. The danger of compromise is that drift rarely feels like rebellion, but Jesus calls His people away from what competes for our hearts and toward something better: Himself.

Faithfulness may go unnoticed on earth, but it is never unnoticed in heaven. Jesus sees His people, confronts our compromise, and invites us to live as though His love is better than anything the world offers.

In Week 2 of our Lampstand Letters series, we turn to Jesus’ letter to the suffering church in Smyrna. Revelation 2:8–11 gives us an honest picture of the cost of following Jesus, while offering a hope that is stronger than our suffering: Jesus has enough life for our death.

Jesus sees the suffering of His people. He knows their tribulation, their poverty, and the persecution they are experiencing. Yet He calls them to remain faithful, even when following Him becomes costly and even when life seems to get worse.

The good news is that suffering does not mean Jesus has lost control. In Christ, our suffering has a boundary, death does not have the final word, and there is a crown of life waiting for those who faithfully endure. Because Jesus Himself died and came to life, He is uniquely able to meet us in our suffering and lead us into resurrection life.

In Week 1 of our Lampstand Letters series, we hear Jesus’ message to the church in Ephesus in Revelation 2:1–7. Jesus sees their work, recognizes their perseverance, and commends their commitment to truth. Yet He also identifies something deeply important that they have lost: their first love.

This passage reminds us that faithful activity and sound doctrine are not substitutes for affection for Jesus. Jesus is jealous for our affections. He desires not simply our service, our commitment, or our knowledge, but our hearts.

As we begin the Lampstand Letters series, we are challenged to examine whether our lives are marked by both faithfulness to truth and a growing love for Christ. Jesus calls His church to remember, repent, and return to the love that shaped us in the beginning.

In Week 6 of our These Things You've Heard Me Say series, we come to Paul's final charge to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4. Paul looks back on a life faithfully lived for Jesus and looks forward to the completion of his race, reminding us that gospel legacy is the result of a life submitted to Jesus and His mission.

A gospel legacy isn't built through recognition, success, or simply being remembered. It is formed through a lifetime of faithfulness—preaching the gospel, enduring hardship, following Jesus, and investing in others. What we do with our lives today can help shape the faith of those who come after us.

As we consider Paul's example, we are challenged to ask what kind of legacy we are leaving and whether our lives are being faithfully submitted to the mission of Jesus.
