Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy

Listen Later

Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) is a form of psychotherapy developed by Dr. Habib Davanloo of McGill University. ISTDP therapy focuses on troubling feelings or thoughts that interfere with relationships, communication, and/or functioning at school or at work.

The aim of therapy is to uncover the sources of the feelings or thoughts that are often hidden from the client. The primary goal of ISTDP is to enable the client to overcome his or her own internal struggle with his or her own feelings and emotions about past and present experiences that overwhelm him or her due to their frightening, threatening, or painful nature.

ISTDP therapists are trained to monitor the verbal and nonverbal reactions that are triggered as you try to face your emotions and will help you face as many feelings as you can while working with you to make sure you do not become overwhelmed or symptomatic.

ISTDP treatment has been extensively researched and is shown to be effective with depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms, substance abuse, eating disorders, and personality problems.
