Ian McDonald is a writer, director, and educator from Portland, Maine. His screenplay for the upcoming Netflix movie Woman of the Hour (f/k/a Rodney and Sheryl) landed him on The Black List and stars Anna Kendrick who also makes her directorial debut. He previously wrote and directed the indie feature Some Freaks. He’s also set up projects with Amazon, Anonymous Content, and Makeready.As a playwright, McDonald’s plays have been produced or developed by Playwrights Horizon, Theatre Masters, Walking Shadow Theatre Co., The Portland Stage Co., The Skylight Theatre Co., The Eagle Project, Moving Arts Theatre Co., The Blank Theatre, The Veritas Ensemble, American Repertory Theatre, The Great Plaines Theatre Conference, American Theatre for Higher Education, and The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, among other places.He is the recipient of The Edward Albee Foundation Fellowship, a MacDowell Fellowship, The Clauder Competition's Gold Prize, and a Playwriting Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Ian received his BA in English Literature from Loyola Marymount University, and his MFA in Playwriting from Brown University, where he also taught.
