Why does it often feel the hardest right before something finally changes?
In this episode of Internal Conversations with Heidi, I share a deeply personal story about my transformation with my dog Toby and the inner work that unfolded through that journey.
For the first seven months, everything in me wanted to quit. My limiting beliefs were loud, my self-sabotage patterns were active, and the negative self-talk felt overwhelming. But I kept returning to two simple commitments:
Show up.
Do my best.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that the real challenge wasn’t Toby, it was the parts of me that were being asked to grow.
In this conversation, I share how an unexpected moment with my mom revealed a deeper pattern I had been carrying within myself. When that pattern finally broke, the self-sabotage and internal resistance I had been experiencing with Toby dissolved almost instantly.
This episode explores:
• Why personal transformation often feels hardest right before it changes• How our old identity and shadow patterns surface during growth• The role of self-awareness in breaking cycles of self-sabotage• Why it’s hard to “see the jar when you’re inside it”• Practical tools to help you step outside the pattern so real change can occur
If you’re currently facing a challenge, feeling stuck, or questioning whether you should keep going, this conversation is meant to remind you that sometimes the resistance we feel is simply our old self meeting the moment of transformation.
Sometimes the breakthrough happens when we keep showing up, even when it’s hard.
You might be closer than you think.
