Betrayal trauma occurs when someone we depend on for survival, or are significantly attached to, violates our trust in a critical way. Anyone can experience betrayal trauma, and research indicates that it’s more associated with physical illness, dissociation, depression and anxiety than fear-based traumas are.
In this episode, licensed family and marriage therapist Dr. Jill Manning joins EIE President and CEO Donna Rice Hughes to discuss the impact of betrayal trauma in relation to the online exploitation of children. You’ll learn how children's experiences of sexual abuse and exploitation, often by someone they trust, can result in deep psychological distress and a sense of betrayal. Most importantly, you’ll learn the warning signs and common misconceptions of betrayal trauma, as well as how and when to seek help.
