Manuscript Study... Inductive Study... OIA...

Whatever you called the method, studying Scripture with your chapter is a core memory for InterVarsity alumni. But in life after graduation it's all too common for it to become exactly that... only a memory. As we connect with new faith communities, it can be difficult to find others who are excited about (or even familiar with) the same method.

On this episode of InterVarsity World Changers, we sit down with InterVarsity alumna and World Changer, Meghan Fisher, who has a deep love for the intersection of God's Word and his people. Originally, recorded for our other alumni podcast, After IV, this conversation is designed to refresh and reinvigorate that passion for studying Scripture. Gene Yang started his artistic journey at the age of two. But in the fifth grade, he encountered something that changed his life forever...  A comic book. While perusing the spinner racks at his local bookstore, Gene spotted DC Comics Presents: Number 57, Starring Superman and the Atomic Knight. With his mother's blessing, he purchased his first comic. An obsession began and his artistic journey took on a new direction.

A second encounter transformed Gene in a powerful new way. Although he'd grown up in a faithful family, it wasn't until his freshman year at an InterVarsity fall conference that Gene had an intimate encounter with God and began following Jesus. As this new relationship bloomed, so did his desire to incorporate his faith into his artistry. Inspired by one professor's advice to write about his life and live out his faith, Gene has since found creative ways to follow and share Jesus as he pens new storylines for famous comic book series like Avatar: The Last Air Bender, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even his childhood inspiration, Superman.

After discovering her passion for fighting human trafficking at Urbana 06, Natasha Paradeshi was confident she knew exactly where God was leading. The path seemed obvious: become a lawyer, move to India, and work with International Justice Mission. But that wasn't the path God had in mind. She struggled with the LSAT and her dream job with IJM never materialized. What followed was an unexpected journey of entrepreneurship, nonprofit leadership, and faith-filled innovation that led to launching The Landing, a groundbreaking ministry serving survivors of human trafficking.

"You've been bewitched!" 

Priyanka Patel's relationship with her family changed forever in a single conversation. As she stood in the parking lot explaining that she'd become a Christian, Priyanka understood what singular devotion to Jesus might cost as a child from a devout Hindu family. But was he worth it? Thankfully, the community she'd developed through OneWay, InterVarsity's South Asian chapter at UT Austin, was there to help her navigate the difficult road ahead. And years later, Priyanka would have the chance to encourage another young student asking the same question she once asked: Is following Jesus worth the cost?

In 2015, Cal Berkeley Alumna, Amy Lee, co-founded Jubilee Immigration Advocates to provide legal representation for immigrants and their families in San Francisco. Her work with Jubilee is deeply rooted in the invitation she received from the Lord at the end of her summer with InterVarsity's Oakland Urban Project: "Surrender your pursuit of the American dream and dedicate your life to serving those living on the margins." Since that moment, her life and legal practice have been expressions of God's ongoing work of justice, restoration, and wholeness in the world.

What does "investing in eternity" look like? 

For Michael Lopez, two pivotal moments began shaping the way he would answers that question for the rest of his life. The first, a high school economics course that shifted his college trajectory from Caltech to Harvard. The second, the day he met InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Not only did Michael have a growing fascination in the science of resource allocation, he was also being developed as a faithful servant of the Master of those resources. For Michael, investing in eternity is a way of life; a joyful calling. It's advising his clients at Sage Stone Wealth Management as they make ethical investment decisions that align with their own deeply held convictions. It's supporting InterVarsity staff to further God's work on college campuses and universities. It's discipling college seniors in financial stewardship and raising up the next generation of faithful servants.

On February 1, 2026, InterVarsity Alumnus Philip Sheegog stood alongside his creative partner and bandmate, Jonathan Miron, and gave his acceptance speech in front of a crowded theater. Their string duo, Arkai, had just won the Grammy for 2025's Best Contemporary Instrumental Album; a crowning achievement for any musician. And as he continues to hold his calling with open hands, this Grammy win and all that follows is a crown Philip chooses to lay down in worship at the feet of Jesus.

Clarity can be elusive. Sometimes next steps are hard to discern. That's why the ability to coach others through the complexities of life and ministry has been such an important skillset for InterVarsity Alumnus, Buck Rogers. Whether its with a church, a ministry team, or a ministry leader, Buck's vision to help them take next steps starts with clarifying what's most important in life and ministry. And it was during his time as a student with InterVarsity at Lafayette College that God started to orient the next 40 years of Buck's life toward a ministry of clarity.

It was a $300 gift from a family member that made it possible for Chiquita Jackson to pay her new student fee. That $300 gift also made her the first person from her family to attend college. While on campus, her life was transformed by Jesus through the loving and supportive community of her InterVarsity chapter and she graduated with a desire to instill others with hope. These foundational experiences helped prompt her to found CJE, an organization on a mission to equip impoverished communities with the tools they need to gain economic independence.
