“I just had to get to a point where I was like, ‘I'm super proud of how far I have come. And I don't care,’” says Julie Zantopoulous, Author and Youtuber. Julie began her journey as a business partner to host Chrystal Rose but then moved on to her passion for writing. Julie is now a two-time published author and host of the Youtube Show, Pages and Pens. Through Pages and Pens, Julie walks her viewers through the many emotional stages of the publishing process, reminding us that even though our goals can be challenging to accomplish, they are possible.
When Julie was first involved with her latest book’s publisher, she fell victim to imposter syndrome. Since she had to pay upfront for an editing and marketing team, she was sure that her family and friends would invalidate her work. However, she eventually realized that her loved ones’ judgments were a fabrication of her mind and it was only her fear preventing her from enjoying her accomplishments. Now, Julie understands how to appreciate her progress and genuinely be proud of her accomplishments.
Tune into this week’s episode of Self-Love for Breakfast for a demystifying conversation on the ups and downs of putting yourself out there. Learn more about Julie’s publishing journey, overcoming imposter syndrome, and how failure truly is the best teacher on the road to success.
Quotes
• “At the end of the day, I did something. I did something that meant something, so I had to find the next thing that meant something.” (10:11 - 10:19 | Julie)
• “That's a big part of why I'm glad that I had the YouTube channel and that people got to see a progression of me struggling really hard with the book. Then they saw me being vulnerable and querying, which took them through the successes because they're like, ‘it feels like I've watched you seriously struggle and then do it. And now I know that I can do it.’” (13:46 - 14:11 | Julie)
• “I don't want an agent who doesn't want me. I don't want somebody who's not passionate enough about my book to be excited to sell it.” (19:45 - 20:06 | Julie)
• “There are so many different routes to success and I had to stop believing that there was only one right road. I had to accept that the road that I was on and the path that I chose was still completely valid.” (27:47 - 27:58 | Julie)
• “There's always a risk when you put yourself out there that someone will say something, but most of the time, it's just your fear talking and keeping you from living your fully expressed life.” (28:42 - 28:54 | Chrystal)
