In this interview highlight, recorded during Vision Australia Radio’s live broadcast from the Adelaide ATSA Independent Living Expo, Jason chats with Ben Waechter, Managing Director of KYD-X, about why inclusive design and lived experience are at the heart of everything the organisation does.
Ben shares how KYD-X began after his son Harry was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and how the lack of accessible information and services in South Australia led to the creation of both the KYD-X expo and the charity. He explains how KYD-X supports people with disability and their families throughout the year, from running major events to delivering practical solutions for everyday accessibility challenges.
The conversation explores KYD-X’s off‑the‑floor accessible toilet trailers, designed to provide dignity, safety and true accessibility at public events, as well as inclusive community programs like frame running, which give children and young people with disability the chance to train, play and belong alongside their peers.
This interview forms part of Vision Australia Radio’s special coverage from the Adelaide ATSA Independent Living Expo, highlighting innovation, advocacy and community‑led solutions that improve access and inclusion for everyone.
