Canadian singer-songwriter, author, and activist, best known for fronting the Montreal alternative rock band “Your Favorite Enemies”, Alex Henry Foster, is our guest today. It's been a long long road to get to this point in his career, a rewarding yet challenging experience. Since the loss of his beloved father, Alex found a pathway into his own self unlike anything he could have ever predicted. The event took quite the toll to the point where he veered away from the world to focus on his own craft – and the result is some of his best work. Dare we say, his magnum opus. Alex chats with us about this experience along with the many others he has encountered in his life, and even though it's a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly, he is grateful he overcame an exponential amount of those obstacles. His newest album “Standing Under Bright Lights'', which is a live concert performed and recorded at the Montreal Jazz Festival from 2019, is one of the most dedicated and passionate works of art from a musician in recent memory.  Viridian is vastly known as the color which lies between green and blue – Italian melodic heavy metal outfit Temperance is here to cover all three in a sonically induced experience. We chat with guitarist/vocalist Marco Pastorino as he dives into their latest effort, “Melodies Of Green And Blue”, an acoustic EP which serves as an encore to the previous full-length album “Viridian”. Releasing an album before a pandemic was something they (or anyone) never saw coming, but they made the best of a dire situation by putting forth a newer and fresh perspective version from the original songs. Marco talks about how this EP really showed a newer side of the members in Temperance, with a recording experience unlike anything else they have ever done. Alongside to that, Marco and his bandmates put together a couple of original songs to round out this record to completion. From lyrical themes, to song structures, and different dynamics in the acoustic genre, the heavier side of music could not have a more fitting counterpart. From the snowy Amish lands of Lancaster, Pennsylvania – comes a metalcore group who are making a name for themselves. Frontman Al Boltz of A Scent Like Wolves joins IUF to talk about the 3rd and newest album “Mystic Auras”. Not only is Al the vocalist, but he shares that position with his brother Nick, and Al talks about the relationship and chemistry the two have formed over the years. The creation of the new album also had many others outside of A Scent Like Wolves involved, and we get to ask Al on how that process came into the light, which allowed him to push himself artistically to the limit. We welcome guitarist Ben Liepelt from German death metal band Endseeker in this edition of IUF. The new album “Mount Carcass” is set to drop soon, and Ben describes how this album had everything from the sound and lyrical elements they have expanded throughout the bands timeline. They spent half a year crafting this album, and from songs about politics, comedy thematics, conspiracy theorists, to the infamous Pablo Escobear (yes, Escobear, and quite a story too) – there is that sense of fulfillment he gets when the ability to write about your ideas come to life. Speaking of which, life has come at the band in many ways, and Ben talks about how important it is to utilize the voice you have on your professional platform. It is what drives the passion, to play and sing about what influences the person. Ben also recalls his personal touring experiences before the pandemic, and what his biggest takeaways are that he can carry with him into the near future once the live show experience returns. Harakiri For The Sky is a band who will be talked about endlessly in the near future, not only for the name itself, but for the well deserved recognition they have finally been receiving as of late. The Austrian duo have manifested one of the more earth shattering black metal albums in recent memory, and we get the opportunity to chat with frontman J.J. about this album. “Mære”, which is the title of the record, inhibits a breathtaking atmosphere including many elements of folk, post rock, and melodic ambiances. J.J. dives into this recording process and the handful amount of collaborations he was able to include during production. The pandemic still had it's ill-timing effect on the band, but they stayed true to their goal, even though there were moments of nervousness in the studio. Out from the Swiss Alps, come the heavy metal band Dreamshade, who are full of some of the grooviest riffs and niftiest melo-death vibes you will ever hear in modern metalcore. We are joined by guitarist Fernando 'Fella' Di Cicco as he talks about the growth and maturity he and the band have been through in the last decade. Now as they are getting prepared to release their long-awaited 4th studio album “A Pale Blue Dot”, this new chapter is exactly what Fella and his bandmates needed, whether it's in the middle of a pandemic or not. The influences behind this record are built on the foundation of American astronomer and author Carl Sagan, who wrote the book “A Pale Blue Dot” from 1994. Fella talks about how big of an impact that book was on his life which transitioned into the naming process of the new album. From metal, to pop, to rock - Award winning Dutch singer-songwriter Anneke Van Giersbergen has composed many different genres throughout her talented career, and this time around, the acoustic genre couldn't feel more at home for her. We get the opportunity to speak with Anneke about her newest record “The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest” and how this album was everything she never knew she needed to write. This album proved that she is no stranger to the graceful and bliss acoustic structure, as it allowed her to tap into a whole different dimension of herself while her growth for musicality continued to mature. She describes how the “...intense years bring you a lot of wisdom” prior/during the writing process of this album, and that many different sorts of influences came into the light. Without struggle, there is no act of perseverance – and that reflected onto the album title. Culminating 23 albums in Anneke's career, she sees these as chapters throughout her life, but it's no time to just sit back and dwell on the past – as there are many more left to contrive and formulate in her bright future.
