We welcome to IUF, seasoned veteran guitarist Jimmy Bower from the New Orleans-based band Eyehategod. The doom-slinging sludge-punk masters are back with their 6th studio album “A History Of Nomadic Behavior”. This album, while it does cover a lot of ground in the political themes, is also the reflection of the chaos and elation the band have experienced over the past three years of touring. Jimmy dives into those experiences and how the process went when the members got together to record the new songs, even during quarantine, which is an easier-said-than-done process. We also talk about the New Orleans metal scene, and how local bands such as Goatwhore, Crowbar, Soilent Green and others continue to make the music for themselves and the passionate fans in the locale. It's a scene that's been around for over 30 years and will still continue to grow. In the final episode of season 6, we welcome a multi-dimensional talent in Aaron Thompson. We chat with frontman Tuomas Saukkonen as he describes the recording process of the last two records, the “Wolves Of Karelia” LP and the follow-up EP titled “Skull Soldiers”. Both seem to be perfect complementary albums to one another, and we dive into the themes and songwriting compositions that took place for Tuomas and his bandmates. Plenty of Finland's history ties into the thought patterns of the lyrics, and the country's war stories have always been an inspiration for Tuomas personally. In a time where a full venue capacity in live music stays on hold, Swedish heavy metal band Enforcer are giving the fans something to re-live until the doors open up again for worldwide touring. Their 2019 show captured at the Circo Volador venue in Mexico City is a performance unlike any other. If this doesn't get the heavy metal blood flowing, there's no telling what will. Frontman Olof Wikstrand joins the IUF podcast to talk about that specific day and how the call to record this gig was a spontaneous one. Releasing a debut album with a label like Metal Blade Records is definitely showing the impressions on making noise in the heavy music scene. As is the case with Louisiana metallic hardcore quartet, Capra. We are joined by the guitarist and founder of Capra, Tyler Harper. Tyler walks us through a grueling 5 year stint that ranges from the creation of the band, to his own personal victory in rehab, signing with a new label, and to getting the rest of his bandmates on the same page as they come together to record an album. The title, the tracks, and the lyricism all had countless amounts of meaningful experiences during the writing and recording phase. But it doesn't stop there, Tyler talks about the bands who have influenced Capra and the desire to bring those said impressions back to life with a modern taste of their own. Sticking to their roots is also something they take seriously, and this includes bringing in a team that assisted in producing, mixing, and mastering the record to where it sounded exactly how they wanted. A culmination of hard multiple years came into the creation of Capra's debut, and they came swinging in a year where there finally seems to be hope on the horizon for the musicians and fans alike in the industry. Canadian singer-songwriter, author, and activist, best known for fronting the Montreal alternative rock band “Your Favorite Enemies”, Alex Henry Foster, is our guest today. It's been a long long road to get to this point in his career, a rewarding yet challenging experience. Since the loss of his beloved father, Alex found a pathway into his own self unlike anything he could have ever predicted. The event took quite the toll to the point where he veered away from the world to focus on his own craft – and the result is some of his best work. Dare we say, his magnum opus. Alex chats with us about this experience along with the many others he has encountered in his life, and even though it's a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly, he is grateful he overcame an exponential amount of those obstacles.  Viridian is vastly known as the color which lies between green and blue – Italian melodic heavy metal outfit Temperance is here to cover all three in a sonically induced experience. We chat with guitarist/vocalist Marco Pastorino as he dives into their latest effort, “Melodies Of Green And Blue”, an acoustic EP which serves as an encore to the previous full-length album “Viridian”. Releasing an album before a pandemic was something they (or anyone) never saw coming, but they made the best of a dire situation by putting forth a newer and fresh perspective version from the original songs. Marco talks about how this EP really showed a newer side of the members in Temperance, with a recording experience unlike anything else they have ever done. Alongside to that, Marco and his bandmates put together a couple of original songs to round out this record to completion. From lyrical themes, to song structures, and different dynamics in the acoustic genre, the heavier side of music could not have a more fitting counterpart. Temperance does it well as they embrace the light and the darkness within the pallet. From the snowy Amish lands of Lancaster, Pennsylvania – comes a metalcore group who are making a name for themselves. Frontman Al Boltz of A Scent Like Wolves joins IUF to talk about the 3rd and newest album “Mystic Auras”. Not only is Al the vocalist, but he shares that position with his brother Nick, and Al talks about the relationship and chemistry the two have formed over the years. The creation of the new album also had many others outside of A Scent Like Wolves involved, and we get to ask Al on how that process came into the light, which allowed him to push himself artistically to the limit. From themes such as mental illness, relationships, and even film - Al explores all the venues about who and what band is all about in this record. We welcome guitarist Ben Liepelt from German death metal band Endseeker in this edition of IUF. The new album “Mount Carcass” is set to drop soon, and Ben describes how this album had everything from the sound and lyrical elements they have expanded throughout the bands timeline. They spent half a year crafting this album, and from songs about politics, comedy thematics, conspiracy theorists, to the infamous Pablo Escobear (yes, Escobear, and quite a story too) – there is that sense of fulfillment he gets when the ability to write about your ideas come to life. Speaking of which, life has come at the band in many ways, and Ben talks about how important it is to utilize the voice you have on your professional platform. It is what drives the passion, to play and sing about what influences the person. Ben also recalls his personal touring experiences before the pandemic, and what his biggest takeaways are that he can carry with him into the near future once the live show experience returns.
