Hello and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.

Maria Cooper Janis was born in Los Angeles, California and lived there with her parents, the actor Gary Cooper and his wife Veronica Cooper.

She followed a painting career in New York and in 1966 married the world-renowned concert pianist, Byron Janis. Although Mr. Janis’ busy schedule has led them all over the world, Mrs. Janis has enjoyed a successful career as an artist. She pursues her paintings with great energy, exhibiting in the United States as well as Europe and Asia.

She has written a book Gary Cooper off Camera: A Daughter Remembers which gives an inside look into the persona of one of the greatest movie stars of all time.

Maria Cooper Janis has also worked on a feature film documentary, “The True Gen,” about the special 20-year friendship between Gary Cooper and Ernest Hemingway, the score of which is composed by Byron Janis.

Byron Janis is internationally renowned as one of the world's greatest pianists. He made his orchestral debut at age 15 with Toscanini's NBC Symphony Orchestra and the following year was chosen by Vladimir Horowitz as his first student.  At 18, he became the youngest artist ever signed to a contract by RCA Victor Records. Two years later, in 1948, he made his Carnegie Hall debut which was hailed as an unparalleled success.

He has a special affinity for Chopin and made a French film on him that was shown around the world.

He was honored by several U.S. Presidents and in 1984, at a State Dinner at the White House in his honor at the invitation of President Ronald Reagan, he revealed that he had been suffering from severe arthritis throughout much of his decades-long career. The painful and crippling condition eventually required surgery on his hands. However, he recovered sufficiently to resume performing and recording commercially and continues to do so today.

Born out of the intensely creative and artistic art rock and fusion movements of the seventies, Happy The Man is one of the most legendary progressive rock bands of all time. Although Happy The Man only released a few albums before breaking up, their impact was strong enough to durably endear the group to a cult following that has been growing ever since. And with the passing of the years, Happy The Man’s music has demonstrated a timeless quality which suggests that it was not only ahead of its time, it was also, in many ways, beyond this world.

Happy The Man has returned with a new album and is ready once again to thrill their devoted fans worldwide. The new album picks up right where they left off, characterized by strong compositions with varying mood and intensity while creatively combining the quirky interplay of rhythms and melodies with lush atmospheric textures.

Hailing from Leeds, England, and now based in Los Angeles, California Julian Shah-Tayler, AKA The Singularity Music is a singer, songwriter and producer.  He has recorded over 400 pieces of music and worked with many artists such as Peter Murphy and David J of Bauhaus.

Julian has been working closely with Depeche Mode’s “But Not Tonight” producer Robert Margouleff for his own project “The Singularity”, on new albums and singles being currently released. He’s also contributed vocals to projects for the likes of Johnny Marr and Ringo Starr and won international awards for his arrangement work with Lana Del Rey and songwriting/performance for ASCAP. He’s recently released new music with David J of the legendary (Bauhaus and Love & Rockets), Alain Whyte (Morrissey), and Wayne Hussey (The Mission UK) and has had his work featured in “Breaking Bad” and “The Sopranos”. On top of his international reputation as a DJ and producer/singer/songwriter, he has appeared on the cover of “LA Weekly” and has been named In their “Top 10 Tribute bands” list for his David Bowie tribute “The Band That Fell To Earth” as frontman “Electric Duke” (which often opens for Strangelove on tour).

A prolific and diverse talent, Shah-Tayler (who also records under the moniker The Singularity) draws his inspiration from ’80s and ’90s New Wave, Britpop, and electronic rock with lyrics inspired by literature and a lifetime of professional touring. Fans have described his sound as if “David Bowie and Depeche Mode had a baby.” Synths-driven, complex, and sexy music to make love and groove to.

L.A. Alt-Rock Band Make Believe Friends Releases New Single “INTENTIONS” Along with Their New Album “MAKE BELIEVE FRIENDS”

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.

L.A. based Make Believe Friends dropped their latest single and new album on December 15, 2023.  The new single, “Intentions”, is an upbeat alt-rock style song featuring Mindy Milburn on lead vocals and music by guitarist/keyboardist Laura Espinoza and lyrics by Milburn & Espinoza. Legendary Producer Ed Stasium (Talking Heads, Ramones) provided the full mix and Bernie Godwin (whose father Dito Godwin produced No Doubt), was the recording engineer.

“Intentions” releases in tandem with Make Believe Friends’ first album to be called by the band’s name: “Make Believe Friends”.

About Mindy Milburn:

Mindy has a passion for all performing arts- starting out as a ballet dancer and actress, & eventually finding her voice and passion for songwriting and music. She is also the lead vocalist for the Blondie Tribute Band “Heart of Blonde”. Originally from Cleveland Ohio, she has performed in numerous musical theater productions & indie films and was also a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers Dance Team.  Mindy made the move to southern California to follow her dream of becoming a recording artist and feels very blessed by the opportunities that have come her way.

About Laura Espinoza:

Laura is a songwriter/guitarist, playwright, and TV producer. She has performed on stage with Luis Maldonado (Train), Terri Nunn (Berlin), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) & Prescott Niles (The Knack) and started her career with Matt Sorum (Guns n' Roses). Caligula’s Horse, hailing from Brisbane, Australia, are a leading light in contemporary progressive metal. Their colourful and emotional music, spanning influences as diverse as King Crimson, Steely Dan, Opeth, and Jeff Buckley, has forged a deep and lasting connection with fans across the globe. In 2020, Caligula’s Horse released their most focused and potent artistic statement yet: Rise Radiant, an uncompromising exploration of the human experience dressed in vivid musical color and virtuosic performances.

The brand-new release by Caligula’s Horse is entitled Charcoal Grace and is borne of the static hopelessness that the pandemic forced upon the band and, indeed, much of the world, these past few years. It is an album reckoning with the experiences and outcomes of this time geared, ultimately, towards catharsis - moving towards a more hopeful future.

The title Charcoal Grace is described by the band as “the grim allure and strange beauty in stillness, silence, and loss”. 

At the center of the album is the 4-part title track suite, a 24-minute opus that pushes deeper into the album’s foundational themes: connection, alienation, and the ways humanity acts under duress. In almost their fifth decade of making music, and continuing the tradition that they helped create, Saxon are still a tour de force in heavy metal music.

Saxon were the leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal (they had eight UK Top 40 albums in the 1980s including four UK Top 10 albums and two Top 5 albums. They had numerous singles in the UK Singles Chart and chart success all over Europe and Japan, as well as success in the United States. During the 1980s, Saxon established themselves among Europe's most successful metal acts. The band toured regularly and has sold more than 13 million albums worldwide.

Originally named "Son of a Bitch, the band changed their name to Saxon in 1979.

Saxon have been cited as a major influence or inspiration by numerous bands, including Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Testament, Dokken, Skid Row, Dream Theater, Exodus, Overkill, King Diamond and Celtic Frost.

SPECIAL EVENT WITH FOUNDING MEMBER AND BAND LEADER PAT MOLESWORTH ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Interviewing the Legends I’m your host Ray Shasho.

Zeelley Moon is the brainchild of singer-songwriter and keyboardist Patrick Molesworth, who is assisted by the Zeelley Moon Band. A British band formed in Buckinghamshire in 2006, headed by Pat Molesworth. The band has just released the band's second album entitled 'The Author And The Dreamer' six years after his debut and it has been well worth the wait.

Seven tracks penned, arranged, and sung by Pat on which he plays piano, Hammond organ, and other keyboards. A stunning, genre defying collection of progressive rock with a twist. The lyrics, which the album's title suggests are of an autobiographical nature, pack a universal emotional relevance.

Pat is joined on guitar and bass by Jim Kelleher (plus Steve Picking on two tracks), Aled Peter Lloyd on drums, Sarah Mau on cello and violin, Katherine Sparks on flute, and Meg Prickett on backing vocals.

Sonic Mojo is Foghat’s highly anticipated and long-awaited 17th studio album—their first in seven years--on the band’s label, Foghat Records, which is distributed by Select-O-Hits (part of the Sun Records family). 

On Sonic Mojo founding member, drummer and leader of the pack Roger Earl is joined by stalwart guitarist, engineer, and co-producer Bryan Bassett (formerly with Wild Cherry and Molly Hatchet), fun-loving bassist Rodney O’Quinn (longtime member of the Pat Travers Band), and on lead vocals and guitar, Scott Holt (who toured and recorded with the legendary Buddy Guy for 10+ years).

The new album absolutely cements Foghat’s title as the undisputed Kings of Boogie Rock as it showcases the band’s trademark crunchy riffs, soaring slide guitar leads, infectious melodies, bluesy influences, and their take-no-prisoners approach to their loud, heavy, blues-rock that fans everywhere can’t get enough of.

Three songs on Sonic Mojo have special meaning for Roger Earl, as they were co-written by Simmonds, the man who gave Roger his first break back in 1967 as a member of Savoy Brown. Sadly, shortly after writing these songs, Kim passed away in December 2022.

Foghat continue to release new music every few years, and are in constant motion on the road, maintaining a rigorous touring schedule that has been a staple of the band since its formation.
