In today's podcast we had the interns answer the following: What major did you pick or what major will you choose in college? What are some of the classes that you have enjoyed? What are some of your favorite hobbies? Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

Carter Deems is a cast member on the wildly popular television series Wild N' Out, a freestyle show that features some of TV's most viral moments from celebrity guests and performers like Kevin Hart, Shaquille O'Neal, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, and Chance the Rapper.  

Carter has always had a passion for hip hop. Starting at a young age, he would entertain his friends through his on-the-fly freestyling abilities and clever word play. While attending Law School, Carter decided to audition to become a cast member on Nick Cannon's Wild N' Out. Carter nailed his audition, impressing the likes of Cannon himself. Since then, Carter has worked with many influential artists and entertainers on the show.

Carter is also a writer on the Emmy nominated series Epic Rap Battles of History and he was on the writing staff for the TV show Drop The Mic on TBS.  He has made appearances on Funny Or Die, Snoop Dogg’s Gladiator School, Animation Sandwich and he voiced a character for the viral animated short ‘The Rap Off’.  His Twitter account was featured in the 50 Funniest Tweets of 2016 on The Daily Dot and he was named the Funniest Battle Rapper of 2015 by Hip Hop DX’s Battlerap.com.  Carter was also a co-writer and producer for the scripted radio show Live: On Air Comedy on WXRW 104.1 Milwaukee.  Carter does standup and battle rap across the country and has performed at the Comedy Store, UCB Franklin, Zanies Chicago, the Milwaukee Comedy Festival, and the Asheville Comedy Festival.

A few weeks ago, we were proud to share that we partnered with Chicago startup, Upkey, to launch a virtual internship program focused on Podcasting and Business Development. The InTheir20s Winter Internship Program has 10 students representing 4 different countries from around the world. Our interns are tasked with creating unique content, building their personal brands, and helping us expand our community. Along with those responsibilities, our interns developed a weekly podcast segment focused on a diverse range of topics. This is a great experience for our interns to expose themselves to the rapid growing world of podcasting.

Cathy Bessant is chief operations and technology officer at Bank of America, and is a member of the company’s executive management team. Since 2010, Bessant has led Global Technology and Operations, delivering end-to-end technology and operating services across the company through a team of 95,000 people in over 35 countries. She also oversees the company’s business continuity and information security efforts.

Since joining the bank in 1982, Bessant has held a number of senior leadership roles. She was president, Global Corporate Banking; president, Global Product Solutions and Global Treasury Services; chief marketing officer; president, Consumer Real Estate and Community Development Banking; national Small Business Segment executive; and president of the Florida market.

After ranking No. 1 for three consecutive years, Bessant was inducted into the “25 Most Powerful Women in Banking” Hall of Fame by American Banker in 2020. Bessant was named to Barron’s “100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance” and she received WatersTechnology’s 2019 Women in Technology and Data Trailblazer Award. She has also appeared on Working Mother magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Working Moms” list.

At 18 years old, Nastassia launched a fitness apparel brand named Nasty Fit which surpassed 7-figures.

At 20 years old, Nastassia began building a networking platform to solve her own personal struggle. On October 2020, Nastassia launched Connectful, a networking app that connects like-minded and entrepreneurial young adults. Her mission is to change the way young adults connect by making it more engaging, interactive and fun.

At 18 years old, Nastassia launched a fitness apparel brand named Nasty Fit which surpassed 7-figures. At 20 years old, Nastassia began building a networking platform to solve her own personal struggle. On October 2020, Nastassia launched Connectful, a networking app that connects like-minded and entrepreneurial young adults. Her mission is to change the way young adults connect by making it more engaging, interactive and fun.   In March of 2020, Nastassia Ponomarenko released her first self-improvement book From Dust to Discipline, where she shared her own transformation and encourages young adults to overcome fear, grow in self-love and happiness, instill discipline, and leave their past and bad habits behind to embark on a journey of becoming their best and most authentic selves.

It is through self-awareness that improvement can happen, and that was Nastassia’s goal and priority for writing this book that every young adult should read.

After opening 30 restaurants over the last 27 years, JamesBeard winning restaurateur Kevin Boehm has become one of the nation's foremost visionaries in the field of hospitality. Kevin, along with his partner Rob Katz have built a restaurant group based on great chefs, inspired design, and enlightened hospitality.

Born in 1970, Kevin grew up in Springfield, Illinois and knew at a young age that he wanted to be in the restaurant business. After working in the industry for just a few years, he saved enough money to open a 6 table restaurant in 1993 called the Lazy Daze Café in Seaside, Florida. Restaurants in Blue Mountain Beach, Florida, Springfield, Illinois, and Nashville, Tennessee would follow, and Boehm got his education opening and selling 4 restaurants all before the age of 30.

In 2002, Kevin would partner with Rob Katz, and the two would open 26 places together in less than 16 years. The group's many accolades & accomplishments include 16 James Beard Finalist nominations, two Food & Wines Best New Chefs, 9 consecutive Michelin Stars for Boka, 6 Boka Group restaurants in Chicago TribunesTop 50 list, and a James Beard Win and Iron Chef designation for Stephanie Izard.

Kevin, along with Rob, won Restaurateurs of the year in Time Out Chicago in 2010, the Chicago Tribune in 2011, and were Eater National’s Empire Builders of the years in 2012. They have been James Beard Finalists for Best Restaurateur in America in 2016, 2017, & 2018 and New City Chicago ranked them #1 in 2017 in its annual list of the 50 most powerful influencers on the Chicago dining scene. In 2019 they won Outstanding Restaurateur in America at the James Beard Awards.

Neha O’Rourke is the Founder and Career Coach at Somewhere In Between Coaching, a coaching company that empowers women around the country and across industries in designing a career and life they love. Brad Edwards is an investigative reporter and main anchor at CBS 2 Chicago. Brad's work has netted more than 100 awards: including eight consecutive regional Emmy Awards for News Writing [2003-’10], nine Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, including three at WBBM for Excellence in Writing – 2013, 2019 & 2020, six regional Emmy awards in 2019, including Best Investigative News Report and Best Hard News Report.  

Brad's work has led to new policies, and prosecutions; it has reunited families, and helped free a woman serving a 50-year prison sentence for a crime she didn’t commit. In Detroit, his year-long exposé into the Wayne County morgue led to the burial of dozens of indigent souls, and the fast-tracking of funding for a massive facility expansion.
