Into The Spider-Cast episodes

  • Episode 16: Spider-Man The Animated Series

It's our first discussion of the iconic 90s Spider-Man The Animated Series! We're joined by our friend Matt of the But Why Tho? podcast to discuss the first episode, "Night of the Lizard," which we found to tell the Lizard's story significantly better than in The Amazing Spider-Man. But first, we give our tributes to the dearly departed Chadwick Boseman, whose performance as King T'Challa, The Black Panther, and other works are legendary and important for so many. We also discuss the latest news of a Kraven The Hunter solo film from Sony, as well as Olivia Wilde's film that signs are pointing to being a Jessica Drew Spider-Woman film. Enjoy!

Author and The Spectacular Spider-Cast host Preeti Chhibber joins us on Into the Spider-Cast! This week, we're starting our Spider-Man MCU journey with Spider-Man Homecoming. Why was this particular reboot so effective, and why do we all love this film so much and the unique ways it uses the Spider-Man mythos? But before that, we discuss Preeti's brand new book, Avengers Assembly #1: Orientation, coming out today on August 4th, which stars Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Doreen Green/Squirrel Girl, and our favorite Miles Morales/Spider-Man!

CJ and Swara finally get to discussing the current Miles Morales Spider-Man run, with Saladin Ahmed and Javier Garrón's Miles Morales: Spider-Man Vol. 1: Straight Out of Brooklyn! We discuss why this comic does a great job of showing a day in the life of Miles in his school life and as Spider-Man, and why Straight Out of Brooklyn is a great starting off point if you want to get into comics after watching Into the Spider-Verse! We also discuss the news on the new Marvel and Scholastic graphic novels coming out, MCU delays, and have some deep and important conversations on representation and inclusion in comics and related media.

  • Episode 12: Gwen Stacy Deserves Better

Trigger Warning/Content Warning for the first part of this episode: harassment, predatory behavior, sexual assault

In the past few weeks, many in the comics and gaming industries have spoken up about the abuse and harassment they have received from prominent figures in these industries. Among those accused of predatory behavior are creators of Spider-Gwen's first series, Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez. We believe and stand with the victims and everyone else speaking up about the abuse they've endured. In this episode, we discuss the systemic problems of sexism, misogyny, and predatory behavior in the comics industry, and how the comics industry must work to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for creators and fans. We discuss how these toxic issues played into the making of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and how this movie failed Gwen Stacy in particular so horribly.

  • Episode 9: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

We're back! After an unplanned hiatus due to technical difficulties, we're finally starting our discussion of The Amazing Spider-Man duology, starting with 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. How does this version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man differ from Tobey Maguire's version? How successful was Sony at the attempted reboot of their landmark film franchise? Why is the relationship between Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker so effective in this film? Does this film effectively convey the core message of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility?" We cover all that and more in our discussion, while also discussing the apparent news of a "Jackpot" film in development, sharing what's on our Spider-Senses, and much more!

Who is Cindy Moon, and how did she get her powers? How are Silk's journey and origin actually relatable to what we're going through right now as we're socially isolating? How do Cindy's powers and abilities differ from those of other Spider-People? We also discuss the news that Into the Spider-Verse 2 has had its release delayed, share what's on our Spider-Sense, read your emails, and much more!

We're discussing the first few issues in both his inaugural 1992 and modern 2015 runs to introduce you to the character. Who is Miguel, and how did he get his unique set of Spider-powers? How does he learn the lesson of "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility" on his own terms? How did he get his unique costume?
