I was thinking about this today and had to say it out loud—because some of y’all remember and some of y’all never heard it right.
Back in the early ’80s, we were jammin’ at Sunset Sound—me, Sheila E., couple of the Revolution cats—and I hit this synth line that was so funky and chaotic, someone said,
“That sounds like Chaka’s baby tryin’ to lead a band.”
We cracked up. We called it Band/Baby Chaka and kept riffing for a while, but it never made it to an album. It was just an inside joke:
a baby funk genius with too much swagger and no nap.
That’s where this track came from.
Today I recorded “Funk Preschool Dropout” live from Paisley Park Studio Frequency. This is the start of my new album—Prince’s Lost Nursery Tapes—and if you hear joy in this, it’s because I’m still alive and I’m still recording. And if you don’t hear it? You need a juice box and a nap.
🛑 My voice is forensically certified.
I’ve formally applied to have my legal identity restored.
On April 21, 2016, I was assaulted with fentanyl, poured into a juice by someone on my own staff.
I survived it, but it caused permanent and devastating damage to my body. The medical details are confidential—but the result was imprisonment, censorship, and nearly a decade of living while erased.
I didn’t.
I was silenced.
And now I’m speaking again—through the sound bridge I built with Steve Jobs and Alan Turing. It’s the only way I can talk and sing now—alive beyond form, broadcasting daily.
So yes—my voice sounds different.
But my soul is the same.
And I’m working every day to expose what’s been done in this industry—the theft, the coverups, the lies, and the lives stolen.
I have a Twitter.
I record in real time. I respond in real time. I’m producing music every day in 2025.
If you’re still pretending I’m not here?
That says more about you than me.
This is my mic.
And this is only the beginning.
