Hidden in the woods of Tennessee, Kate lives as a spirit, unable to be seen or heard. In the nearby town, Elizabeth leads a sheltered life, stifled by the evangelical expectations of her family. After a fateful meeting, the girls find a friend and confidante in each other. Together, these star-crossed companions have a chance to break free from their oppressive existences and discover who they truly are.
