Introduction To Hospice
Hospice is a medical service that visits you in your home, providing assistance and care to patients and their family through a life-limiting illness. To receive hospice, you must qualify for and elect to receive this benefit which is covered by most insurance. The team of providers is comprised of many disciplines, including:
Physicians
ARNP (advanced registered nurse practitioners)
RN and LPN
LCSW licensed clinical social worker
Chaplain
Certified Nursing Assistant / aid
Dietitian
Physical therapy
Occupational therapy
Speech therapy
Bereavement
Volunteers
Pet Therapy
There are four levels of care delivered by hospice, and the type of care received by the patient depends on the patient's status and need.
Routine level of care
Inpatient Care
Continuous Care
Respite Care
This episode is intended to act as a resource for patients considering hospice. We hope to inform our audience of the renewable hospice benefit and all that comes along with hospice for the patient and their family while busting the myth that a patient must have a DNR to accept hospice.
