In this episode, Kirsten Thorn shares her advice with other inventory managers: "Get yourself familiar with what your clinic has. You can always talk to your vendors about new things coming in. Get to know your vendors, get to know your software. Also, get to know your technicians and what they need. They are going to be the ones that are really going to help you as to what their needs are and what they are going to run out of… even talk to your doctors. But, get to know your inventory, get to know what you have, and get to know your software."

In this episode, we are going to be focusing on something a little different than inventory. Instead, we’re going to be talking about another important aspect of veterinary medicine; mental health. Not only that, but the rates of burnout and compassion fatigue are incredibly high in our industry. We go above and beyond on a regular basis to care for others; whether it’s our patients, our clients, or our team. I think it’s important to care for ourselves just as much as we care for others.

Rebecca, an inventory manager and veterinary technician at an emergency practice, shares her advice with other inventory managers: "find your support system and keep doing you. You are going to have those hard times and you are going to struggle sometimes, but it's all going to be okay. You're going to find your niche and it's going to be so much easier. It's going to be okay!"

In this episode, we are going to be talking all about how to manage backorders in your practice. It seems like backorders have become increasingly more frequent and lengthy in the last couple of years. I remember back when I first started managing inventory, which seems like many moons ago now, if a product was on backorder, it was either short-lived or it was fairly easy to find an alternative. Now, not so much. Between the class II opioids, eye medications, antibiotics, and other critical backorders, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Caitlin shares her advice with other inventory managers: "Try to take advantage of all available resources, ask questions, network, ask people on Facebook groups, the Veterinary Inventory Strategy Network, and Vetcove discussion boards. Question the methods that are in place when you take over, ask yourself, "is there a better way to do this?". It doesn't have to all be changed overnight, it's a process, it will take time to make the system your own. But, it's all about looking at each process, and saying "is this the best way I can be doing this?" and if not, what are some other ways and other resources to reach out to and see about other options that might be a better fit. Always be flexible and be willing to learn, grow, and change!"
