What is the difference between “Your Kingdom come” and “Your Will be done”? How do you specifically pray for these things to be done in your own lives?

According to Jewish law, abortions are permitted, and in a study in 2015, 83% of American Jews were in favour of abortion. However their views are quite nuanced and very biblically based. How come abortion seems to be such a hot button topic for Christians when the faith we inherited has a deep, well thought out, nuanced support of abortion?

Perhaps it’s a matter of context that I don’t know about but wouldn’t this verse suggest that no one can ever get out of hell which would contradict the third theory? Or is this just an example of support for one of the other theories which is why no one can really be dogmatic about any of them?

3. In Luke 10:5-6 (NIV) , Jesus sends out his disciples telling them to say "peace to this house". If someone who promotes peace is in the house, your peace will rest on them. And if not it will return to you. What does it mean for peace to return to you? Is that a cultural thing?

1. I submitted the question about Abraham and being willing to die for God last week. The question was originally asked by my 7 year old son and I submitted it unfiltered. As you talked about it on last week's podcast, I realized he was seeing the story of abraham and Isaac through Isaac's eyes, and from that view Isaac was trusting his Father and obeying to his death. Does this change your answer to last weeks question? The question was "If God told you to do something, and you know you would die if you did it, would you still do it. Because God told Abraham to kill his son and he obeyed."

3. In Luke 9: 37-42, Jesus frees a demon possessed boy that his disciples could not. Jesus says "you unbelieving and perverse generation... How long shall I stay with you and put up with you?" who is Jesus speaking to? The people? His disciples? What is he trying to communicate?

1. It seems most modern evangelical churches only believe in adult baptism, but the Catholic church has been doing it for centuries. Are we missing something? Does it matter if infants are baptized or not?

Q&A #141 - Love, just war, pastors, God overriding free will, Kanye West's new album and colonizing mars

1. A couple of weeks ago Blake taught from the gospel of John chapter 21, where Jesus asks Peter 3 times if he Loves Him.  All translations that I am aware of except for one use the word “love” for both sides of the conversation.  But in the original Greek that it was written in there are 2 words used here, Agape and Philia.  According to CS Lewis’s book, “The Four Loves” Agape (ἀγάπη) means unconditional "God" love, and Philia (φιλία) means a friend bond.  I have read translation notes and commentaries that defend the normal translation of using the word “love” for both words; however the fact remains that the original author did in fact use different words.
2. In a previous podcast you talked about Jesus and how he seemed to advocate non violence. Do you think there is ever a case for a just war then? What about warring against organizations like Joseph Koney's "Lords Resistance Army"? How should we as Christians be involved with problems like the LRA when they are destroying thousands of lives every month?

4. I often hear Christian apologists say the reason God doesn't provide solid evidence for his existence is because if he did, he would intrude on our free will to choose to believe. However, in the Bible, there are many accounts of God controlling nature, raising the dead, bringing plagues on an entire people group, etc. In each of these cases God seemed to show irrefutable proof to the witnessing humans of his existence, yet many chose not to believe in him. How do we explain the alarming lack of empirical evidence of the God of the Bible if this argument falls flat?

Q&A #140 - A Boat load of questions!

1. Question to the musicians - do you have to adjust your timing to the lead singer; or do you expect the lead singer to follow your timing?

I have observed over the years that there are some christians that will be sympathetic and loving to a person that the meet who has gone bankrupt in the past, but those same christians will often be judgemental and condemning of someone that they know who is thinking of going bankrupt.  Do you have any comments on this observation?
3. Did Christians who hid Jews and lied to the Nazis during the holocaust sin because they lied and disrespected the authority that God put in place over them?

7. Why was Jesus so mean to the religious leaders and so accepting of the bad people? I feel like Jesus set a bad example where only the people he liked were loved. Why don't we just love people for who they are and what they do no matter what.
8. Looking at the early church, it seems the church aimed to change the world through action VS political activism. For example adoption, caring for the poor, erasing gender and social lines in their community, etc. Is this perspective accurate? If it is, what does this mean for our church now? Should we be involved in politics especially since it seems there is no political party that accurately reflects Christs teachings? What is the best way to effect social change around us?
