Ilika (IKA:AIM) delivered a comprehensive investor update outlining strong operational progress across its two solid-state battery platforms, reinforcing its near-term commercialisation strategy and long-term growth potential. During the period, the company strengthened its balance sheet through a successful equity raise and advanced its Stereax miniature solid-state batteries toward revenue generation, having qualified manufacturing with US partner Cirtec Medical, commenced production, delivered initial batteries to customers, and received its first commercial purchase order for cathode materials—marking an important inflection point for recurring revenues, royalties, and licensing income. Stereax targets fast-growing medical and industrial IoT markets, with applications in neurostimulation, implantable sensors, orthopaedics, ophthalmics, and digital health, supported by a capital-light licensing model and a growing patent portfolio of 78 granted patents. Progress was also reported on Goliath, Ilika’s large-format solid-state battery technology for automotive, industrial, defence, and consumer applications, with successful validation of prototype cells, commissioning of an automated pilot line, shipments of 10Ah power prototypes to OEMs and Tier-1 partners, and demonstrated compatibility with gigafactory-scale equipment at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre. Independent modelling highlighted potential EV battery pack cost reductions, weight savings, faster charging, and improved range, supporting commercial discussions and licensing opportunities. Financially, the company reported revenue of £0.6m, an increased EBITDA loss reflecting accelerated development activity, and a cash balance of £6.9m post-period, further supported by R&D tax credits and ongoing grant funding. Overall, Ilika enters the next phase with improving order momentum, multiple revenue streams, and a clear path to scalable commercial partnerships.
