Iowa Falls Evangelical Free Church Sermon Podcast

Thanksgiving was different for many of us this year. It would be easy to focus on all that’s been taken away from us in 2020. Yet we know it’s more fitting to give thanks for all we’ve been given. What have we chosen to do with all we’ve been given?

Today we continue to work through the book of Nehemiah by looking at chapter 5 in which we find that some of God’s people are using their position and riches to take advantage of others. When Nehemiah calls them out on it, how will they respond? Will God’s people use what they have to take advantage of others or take care of others?

As 2020 draws to a close, we continue to work our way through some significant challenges. The virus that once seemed far off is proving to be a more serious threat locally. How do we face this threat together while continuing to do what God has called us to do?

Nehemiah 3-4 is a timely passage for us to look at together today.

When things don’t look good we often stop and pray. That’s what Nehemiah did in chapter 1. Today we’ll look at Nehemiah 2 as God answers Nehemiah’s prayer and Nehemiah takes action. Once again we’ll see how this chapter points us to Jesus and we’ll see just how applicable God’s Word is for us in our lives today.

When things aren’t looking good, stop, pray, and seek God’s mercy. That’s the big idea of today’s message from Nehemiah 1. Every year in the weeks leading up to Christmas we go through a book of the Old Testament that points us ahead to the hope we have in Jesus.

Big Idea: The LORD is the Judge of and King over all nations.

Big Idea: Love and support one another like family as we walk in the truth together.

Big Idea: Prioritize God's presence and trust God's promises and provision.

Our associate pastor, Stan Johnson, preached this sermon to us on his last Sunday at IFEFC. God's test for Abraham is also a test for us. Are you "all in" with God? Like Abraham, the Lord wants you to completely and absolutely surrender everything you are and have to Him! Will you do that this morning?

Knowing that the day of Jesus' return is coming affects the way we live today.
