Iowa Weather 3/7 Evening - Flood Watch Flip Flop

Listen Later

Good evening. Iowa. I'm Michael Nally.
Step outside and you might still feel that crisp morning bite, but don't let it fool you. We're sitting at 33 degrees right now, but the script is about to flip in a big way. The stubborn gray clouds are breaking up, pushing out of the west. And sunshine is taking over. Des Moines, you're already seeing blue skies, while Cedar Rapids catches up by mid-afternoon.
Here comes the warmth. Western Iowa is already leading the charge at 35 degrees, but nobody stays put today. Tonight doesn't bring cooling — it brings climbing. Winds shift southwest after sunset. And temperatures actually *rise* while you sleep. You'll wake up to the upper 30s statewide, with Sioux City hitting 39.
Sunday is where the real show starts. We're talking *seventies*, folks. Western Iowa surges to 72 degrees — that's 26 degrees above normal. Even Eastern Iowa joins the party at 66. It’s going to feel like opening a pizza oven out there. Just keep a grip on your hat — gusts hit 30 miles an hour, creating dangerous fire conditions. Absolutely no outdoor burning today.
The heat sticks around for Monday, flirting with record highs near 70. But enjoy it, because Tuesday brings a reality check. A storm system rolls in with drama: Southern Iowa gets thunderstorms, while Northern Iowa sees a wintry mix. We crash back to the 40s by Wednesday. The Iowa River at Marengo is even under a Flood Watch starting midweek.
Take advantage of this preview of summer — get that grill out or go for a bike ride, because winter isn't quite done with us yet.
See you tomorrow.
