26 year San Diego Sheriff Helicopter Pilot Sgt. Scott Bligh has served with the US Navy and worked as a helicopter pilot deploying from ships in the roles of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and surface surveillance and control (SSC). He is currently the supervisor for the fire-rescue program where they operate larger helicopters and work with Cal Fire to perform hoist rescues and fire suppression with water drops from the helicopter’s belly tank.
