According to Business Insider, Muslim consumers spend upwards of $2 trillion dollars on services that support their faith. Whether it’s modest clothing, Islamic home décor, or halal food, there is a growing demand for products and services that cater to an Islamic lifestyle.
Known as the “halal economy,” conventional markets are tapping into the Muslim dollar. Stores like IKEA and Target now sell Ramadan décor, while Nike and lululemon offer sport hijabs. This is all good news for Muslims as it’s easier than ever to find products that support their faith.
In this episode we talk to one of the earliest pioneers of the halal economy, Riaz Surti. Riaz began his entrepreneurial career in the 90’s as a KFC franchise owner. He soon saw a need to provide halal chicken for his Muslim customers. As he says, “Putting Allah first is key to success.”
This faith-led approach eventually took him to launch his successful company, Hearthy Foods. A health and wellness company that sells products like halal collagen, bone broth, and grain-free flours. Hearthy Foods won Product of the Year in 2020 and has been featured on Shopify. Riaz gets candid about keeping faith first in every business decision he makes.
If you are looking to start a business or are a seasoned entrepreneur, you are sure to enjoy this episode filled with advice and lessons on what makes a business fail and how to ensure success.

One of Allah’s beautiful miracles in nature, one of His beautiful names, Al-Wadud, love, is now the billboard for a lifestyle that we received a serious warning against in the Quran. For those living in the West, this month of June marks a massive media event called ‘Pride Month.’
A month that not only recognizes the LGBTQ+ movement but is something we see everywhere. Whether it’s a simple trip to a store that has a huge display and looks very inviting to children with the rainbow clothing, or at their schools with students and teachers ‘showing their pride’ with rainbow shirts.
This is a challenging topic for Muslim families, but to control the narrative, it’s vital that we as parents talk to our kids, because, whether we like it or not, they are forced to learn about it.
And although it is more visible in the West, it exists everywhere.
In this episode of IQRA Network Podcast, I talk to Sheikh Tarek Ata, Imam at Orange County Islamic Foundation. I met Sh. Ata at a recent talk he gave on this exact subject, “How to Talk to Our Muslim Kids About LGBTQ+.”
