Throughout the history of modern society, we have seen the persistent attention on health issues that have become more political. These issues are especially prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic as we see countries utilizing the opportunity to forward their political agenda based on health issues —whether it affects health positively or negatively. As exemplified in the practice of ‘vaccine diplomacy’ by countries such as India, China, Japan, and numerous other countries. India has delivered millions of vaccines as gifts to neighbouring countries to combat the COVID-19 crisis, extending from Myanmar and Bangladesh to Mauritius and Seychelles, which has attracted much international attention and shows India’s vaccine-manufacturing capacity and international generosity. Hence, through ‘vaccine diplomacy,’ health issues are not without the aspects of politics and soft power. Thus, in this second episode of IR-Fication, the podcast have invited Mr Agus from the Global Fund to delve deep into the topic of health politics, its effect on the recent pandemic, and the implication of politics in health or vice-versa.
