The Ministry says the figures being shared relate to relief grants that were provided to households affected by hurricane Beryl in 2024, and do not apply to the current situation. The Government says it remains firmly committed to assisting all citizens affected by hurricane Melissa, and has started to conduct household damage assessments.

Schools were closed ahead of hurricane Melissa's arrival last Tuesday. The category 5 system left many sections of the island in ruins, and damaged infrastructure including schools. The Education Minister had indicated that schools which are able to, should resume classes today.
