Firefighters are responding to two separate bush fires in Central Village, St. Catherine and Skyline Drive, St. Andrew.

Acting Deputy Commissioner in charge of Fire and Rescue Operations at the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Julian Davis-Buckle said the fire in Central Village remains active, while the other in Skyline Drive is under control.

General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP) Dr. Dayton Campbell, is claiming that Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has not given a date for the upcoming general election because the Jamaica Labour Party Leader knows the JLP will face defeat at the polls.

Dr. Campbell made the statement at a party meeting in St. Ann last evening where he again declared that the PNP is ready to take on the JLP and is confident of victory.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed concern about the spate of fatal road crashes over the past few weeks.

In a statement, Mr. Vaz noted that he is disturbed by the circumstances surrounding many of the incidents, which often involve excessive speeding, distracted driving, the non-use of seat belts and safety gear, and in some cases, impaired driving.
