The upgraded administrative block at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James was officially opened today.

The hospital has been undergoing extensive rehabilitative and redevelopment work following the discovery of significant air quality issues and dereliction that date back to 2009.

The Judicial Service Commission will be assessing how it selects judges for court cases. 

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes made the disclosure during the swearing-in of  judges for the Easter term this morning. 

He said the selection of judges is aligned with the country's aim to control crime and making Jamaica a secure, cohesive and just society.

Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr, is urging people to become ambassadors of the Social Pension Programme.

The programme was conceptualized by the government to target assistance to seniors over the age of 75 who are without a pension or any financial support and who are not on the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has pointed out that Jamaica is already doing what’s necessary to withstand global economic shocks, in the wake of advice from the International Monetary Fund, relating to impacts from the current trade war.

The island's public school teachers are reportedly upset and disappointed that the promised payment of increments this month did not materialize.

The Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) said while the Finance Ministry had indicated a timeframe for payment in the first quarter of this fiscal year, that is, April, May, or June, the ministry had reached an understanding with the association that the payment would be made in April.
