The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has disbursed more than $2 billion to Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Melissa, with over 2000 Westmoreland residents receiving over $700 million in the latest round of payments under the Restoration of Owner or Occupant Family Shelter (ROOFS) Programme. During Thursday's grant handover ceremony in Savanna-la-Mar, Portfolio Minister Pearnel Charles JR. outlined the allocations.

Ms Purkiss said up to 90 percent of Jamaica’s hotel workers are employed on rolling short-term contracts of three, six, or twelve months at a time. She said this is a deliberate strategy used by large overseas-based hotel operators to prevent workers from qualifying for the employment protections guaranteed under the Employment (Termination and Redundancy Payments) Act of 1974.

Forty Four beds were donated to the Mandeville Regional Hospital yesterday by the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation, Project Cure and Just a Bunch of Roadies. The police have named 2 persons of interest in relation to the murder of three year old Jase Pinnock and the wounding of 2 of his relatives during a gun attack along Nelson Street in Denham Town, Kingston this morning.

Those being sought are known as Jubby and Romie, who lawmen allege are members of the Scream Corner gang.
