Consciousness can be defined as the rate at which any system can know, with a maximum of 1. The more a system can know at any moment, the more conscious or towards maximum consciousness it is. Knowing is the basis of conscious experiences, obtainable to varying degrees.

See [to know], then feel and react is the central pathway. It applies as well to touch, smell, taste and hearing. Knowing is the first phase in the mind after sensory inputs are converted or integrated into what the mind can use. There are minimums of consciousness per division. Divisions of consciousness are defined by the human mind at aspects from which consciousness is provisioned.
t + M + F + E = 1
t = thought in lower case because thoughts are quantities in transport, bearing properties, not a standalone parameter. t is included here for unplaced states like the sense of self, or the subjective experience of things, which is also a property in the mind, or the I in anything. It also includes action and reaction, since thought sets them up—as experiences.
M = Memory, signifies everything known. It is where cognition is based, as well as intelligence, creativity and so forth. Knowing is mostly here, though other divisions have aspects of it, but M represents what is known w.r.t. decision-making. It is this knowing that is useful to avoid predators, seek prey or do economics.
F = Feelings mostly cold, heat, satiation, thirst, sleepiness, lethargy, pain, strain and so forth. They also include interoception or all bodily or visceral states, like bloating, inflammation of a tendon, lymphedema and so forth.
E = Emotions and variants including mood, depression, anxiety, sadness, hurt, irritation, frustration, anger, delight, calm, cool, interest, fascination and so on.
There is often a dot on top to indicate which one has the most prioritization in a moment, with the highest figure tending towards 1, while others are in pre-prioritization.
The distribution is not even for all or respectively at 0.25, because there is always one prioritized in a moment, taking a large number. In cases of serious fear, panic or in an emergency, it may get close to 0.70 but scarcely beyond. The usual number for others in pre-prioritization rarely goes lower than 0.10, and hardly even.
There is no state of consciousness without these 4 divisions. Vegetative state, minimal consciousness, coma, general anesthesia, stages of sleep and others often have each with rates, but low prioritization with F. In a sleep with dreams, there is prioritization with M, as well as E. Interchanges between divisions are often fast and numerous, with multiple prioritizations possible within a second.
For internal senses, in a normal state of consciousness, they regularly work in pre-prioritization, without knowing or awareness, doing so too in alternate states of consciousness. What is not in conscious experience occurs in the same process as conscious experiences: so while the process is not known to the individual, it is known or experienced by the mind, where consciousness is based. What gets given to the individual is via degree or duration.
When asleep that internal senses get prioritization [within F], they may not be known or experienced by the individual, mostly due to the little time spent, since there are many parts to run through. This means that when aspects of some tissue or blood vessel are prioritized, they may be evanescent, so even if the degree goes up, it is not directly felt and if it would, it may, through other regulars like heart rate [thick property], rather than the specific vessel.
