Speed Fibre Group, Ireland's leading telecoms infrastructure provider and the parent company of Enet and Magnet+, has announced the completion of its acquisition of BT Communications Ireland Limited (BTCIL), a business unit of BT and a leading provider of wholesale and enterprise connectivity solutions in Ireland.

Integration of the two businesses begins today.

The acquisition includes BTCIL's domestic network infrastructure, co-location facilities, wholesale and enterprise customer base, and the internal teams supporting them. These operations will now be integrated into Speed Fibre Group's two brands: Enet, serving wholesale customers, and Magnet+, serving enterprise businesses.

By uniting two complementary businesses, Speed Fibre Group is creating one platform with greater scale, deeper reach, and enhanced capability delivering increased choice, better value, and more innovation to customers nationwide. This platform will support the data centre sector, next generation computing and AI requirements.

Following the transaction, Speed Fibre Group's network now extends to nearly 10,000 km of fibre, connecting 94 towns and cities, and over 6,000 buildings including more than 2,500 in Dublin and key urban centres. This strengthened footprint positions Enet as Ireland's second-largest wholesale telecoms operator, enabling faster service delivery and providing real competition in the marketplace.

The transaction also includes a long-term agreement for BT and Speed Fibre Group to source connectivity from each other, ensuring continuity of service for both organisations and their customers.

Third Edition of the National AI Meet announced as Industry, Academia and Policy Experts to convene in Galway

TechIreland has announced that the third edition of the National AI Meet will take place in Galway on 18th September, bringing together senior leaders from industry, academia, and public policy to highlight Ireland's growing role as a leader in AI adoption across business and society.

The event will be officially opened by Minister Niamh Smyth TD, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, with responsibility for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Transformation.

National AI Meet, Galway September 18th

A curated cohort of over 300 businesses (invite-only) from diverse sectors across the island are expected to attend, reflecting the wide-reaching impact of AI on both technology and non-tech industries. The top teams from this year's National AI Challenge will also showcase their solutions at the Meet.

The National AI Meet has received longstanding support from Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, InterTradeIreland, Data2Sustain European Digital Innovation Hubs, and global AI leaders including Google and OpenAI - reinforcing Ireland's unique standing in AI talent, research, and innovation.

This year's programme features top executives from the likes of CeADAR, Údarás na Gaeltachta and Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), alongside multinationals such as Genesys and Workhuman, and Irish startups like Jentic and Success.co. Expert panels will cover topics ranging from AI Agents and manufacturing automation, to future skills-needs, underscoring the Meet's objective in supporting AI adoption across the Irish workforce.

In last year's event, more than 200 leadership team members participated, 60% were high potential companies and multinationals with significant R&I in Ireland, 17% from the public sector, 8% academics and research community. 45% of attendees were from Dublin, 25% from the host city - Galway and the remainder representing more than 18 counties from Belfast to Cork and Donegal to Waterford.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, which operates a Global Delivery Centre in Ireland, has been featured in a report that advocates for and puts emphasis on marketing as a function to lead the charge on achieving sustainability goals. 'CMO Blueprint for Sustainable Growth' interviewed Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) across sectors and identified 10 case studies that demonstrate the various ways in which brand custodians have furthered the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals of companies.

The study spotlights ReScore, a cloud-based app that helps sporting event organisers measure and reduce their impact on the environment year on year. Commissioned by the Council for Responsible Sport, ReScore was developed by TCS as part of its broader commitment to advancing sustainable practices and climate-conscious innovation as part of the company's CSR initiative 'Sadhana SamarpaN'. The study says that TCS demonstrates how responsible marketing, and technology can drive meaningful and measurable change.

The theme for the 2025 International Day of the World's Indigenous People was Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures. On July 29, 2025, OpenAI introduced study mode. A new way to learn in ChatGPT that offers step by step guidance instead of quick answers. Google [August 6, 2025] announced the provision of $1 billion to support AI education and job training programs and research in the U.S.

Why is it unlikely for an individual to know everything about an area of medicine in 2 weeks? Just the knowledge, without practical, as much as a resident, in that timeframe? Assuming there is a good tutor, all forms of learning methods and facilities, why does learning still take time?

Digital Schools, can they help?

If the purpose is to pass an exam, or for findings, curiosity, or tasks, what are the chances of knowing enough to recall - or comprehending more?

Why is it easy to read the news, understand and sometimes remember the [gist of] reports after many months? Even in cases where stories are sometimes new, it is possible to digest and recall. This is different from learning [say] advanced geometry or physiology. What are the limitations of learning, for humans, that the promise of a new learning resource may not solve?

Also, there is something to learning that might make it seem easy or difficult. Timeframe, objective, subject type, prior experience, situations and so forth, may determine the procession of learning. There is, however, something about all learning, it is the ability to possess that knowledge, and use it - socially, casually, professionally or otherwise. If the reason to acquire knowledge is already possible without the necessity to acquire it, learning may lose its spark.

There is already a lot of buzz about AI Tutor: all patient, ever available, all explaining, all knowledge areas, sequential, never complaining, all supportive, same pace, descriptive at any level, switch ready per language, subject, even in personal needs or emotions, anything to be asked and so forth, AI - all possibility - Tutor.

The solution of AI Tutor is the solution of AI Worker or AI Staff. AI can do a lot of the things it can instruct. In cases that it cannot, it can assist someone that may have no expertise, for a task that does not require total precision - excluding the need for a professional. Aside from the work replacement of the same AI, AI Tutors are unoriginal in terms of moving knowledge forward in how humans learn.

What is Learning in the Brain?

When an individual is learning [say] harmonic numbers, what is the process like, in the brain? This question means that in reality, there is the topic, and in the brain, there is what the topic is. What does it mean that the thing in reality gets to the brain and stays there? What does it mean to be familiar with it to solve problems in different directions and to answer questions around it, unaided?

These questions are not about memory encoding, consolidation, retrieval, engrams, prediction and much else. Simply, what in the brain, is the [construction or architecture of the] topic and what is the process like?

What would have been human-centered artificial intelligence solution for learning or tutoring could have been an accompanying display, to show that this sensory information [sight or auditory], is relaying this way in the brain, it is using a particular attribute of [responsible] components within the brain, and it is not sticking yet because the components are not finding a configuration [or assembly] and so forth. Because of the abstractions [in the topic], it is best to learn it in a certain way, then give sometime, add in another, do some activity and so forth, aiming at the attributes [of the components] at the time.

This would be like learning and showing a parallel of what is occurring in the mind to the closest approximation [conceptually]. It may indicate that instead of getting discouraged, blaming oneself or feeling bad about not ...

With NIS2 compliance deadlines approaching and a growing legal spotlight on cybersecurity across financial services and critical infrastructure, what's ahead and where might Irish organisations be falling behind.? One person who has a deep knowledge of NIS2 is Dr. Deirdre Leahy, a lecturer in the Law of Cybercrime and Digital Forensics at MTU, and an Irish-qualified solicitor with deep expertise in digital regulation, online consumer protection, and cyber incident law. I recently caught up with Dr Leahy.

The NIS2 Directive is the EU-wide legislation on cybersecurity which updates the 2016 NIS Directive . It was introduced to strengthen and harmonise cybersecurity across the European Union, and to keep-up with increased digitisation and an evolving cybersecurity threat landscape.

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, and Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Marian Harkin TD, joined Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy, the national initiative developed by Skillnet Ireland in partnership with Wind Energy Ireland, to launch 12 new university accredited micro-credential courses.

Minister Lawless said: "Micro-credentials are a valuable part of lifelong learning, and these courses developed by Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy are a best-in-class example of practical, demand-led training aligned with the needs of employers and the Irish economy. As a part of the Government's Offshore Wind Action Plan, addressing the skills gap in this sector is a key objective. These flexible micro-credentials will play an instrumental role in building a sustainable workforce and supporting the long-term growth of offshore wind capabilities."

Minister Harkin, who also attended the launch, said: "The new university-accredited courses offered by Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy will equip professionals with the specialised skills needed to drive the development of Ireland's offshore wind sector. These programmes will provide pathways into high-impact, future-proofed careers that will help us deliver on our net-zero commitments, strengthen our economy, and protect our environment for generations to come."

Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy offers a range of flexible micro-credential courses targeted at mid-career professionals currently employed who have the potential to transition into offshore renewable energy. This year, the Academy is targeting priority roles aligned with Ireland's development stages of offshore wind that include Offshore Project Managers, Ornithologists, Geophysicists, GIS Technicians, Resource Analysts, Offshore EIA Managers, Offshore HV Technicians, and Able Seafarers. Employers are encouraged to upskill for their businesses in these key areas.

A report last year from Green Tech Skillnet estimated that the Irish offshore wind energy sector will be worth at least €38 billion to the Irish economy by 2050.

Tell us about your journey to becoming a digital artist and why you prefer the digital art medium over others?

My journey into digital art started out of necessity. I didn't have access to traditional materials or studio space growing up, but I did have a tablet, a bootleg copy of Photoshop, and time. Drawing digitally gave me the flexibility to work from anywhere, to experiment without fear of wasting materials, and to iterate endlessly in a way that left no physical traces. Over time, those tools became more than a means to an end - they became an extension of how I think.

After earning my BFA with a focus in design, I worked in the branding world, but I never felt creatively fulfilled. On a whim, I applied for an artist residency in Tokyo. I didn't think I was qualified, but I got in - and it changed everything. I lived with five artists from different backgrounds who were years ahead of me in their practices. Their advice was simple but transformative: Make what's true to you and show it to everyone who'll look.

That's where the seeds for Des Lucréce were planted. I created the alias as both a shield and a reflection of my identity - a nod to my Vietnamese roots, my love of French philosophy, and the long history of artists adopting personas to carve out their own space. I started posting the work I'd hidden for years, and it found an audience.

Going digital wasn't just a practical choice - it was philosophical. The internet, like my identity, is fragmented, contradictory, and constantly under revision. Digital art gave me a space where those contradictions weren't weaknesses - they were the language.

Tell us about your latest series "The Erosion of Time and Neo-Techne: Art in the Age of the Machine" on exhibit at the Art Light Museum which invites audiences to explore themes of identity, displacement, and innovation in the digital age.

The Erosion of Time is my most ambitious exhibition to date - a fully immersive, 3,500-square-foot installation that blends animation, light, sound, and architectural scale to explore memory, cultural fragmentation, and the impermanence of digital identity. Exhibited at the Museum of Art + Light, the show is paired with Neo-Techne, a group exhibition that situates my work in dialogue with questions about technology, automation, and what it means to make art in a machine-mediated era.

Thematically, the exhibition builds on the idea that our identities - particularly as second-generation immigrants or culturally displaced people - are constantly eroding and being rewritten. We leave traces everywhere, yet feel rooted nowhere. The show uses a combination of celestial imagery, shifting landscapes, and meditative pacing to give form to this emotional terrain. There's also a literal decay built into the projections - subtle loops where forms fall apart and reform, referencing both the fragility of memory and the persistence of digital traces.

There's also a physical component to the show. I've created exclusive merchandise - plush figures and wearables - that extend the work beyond the screen. For me, this is about expanding Des Monsters into the everyday: they're not just artworks, they're avatars, totems, and mirrors of the self. It's a way to let the work travel with people, and blur the line between art, identity, and utility.

What are your thoughts about the US Government's latest focus on digital assets ? Will this help institutional investment in NFTs in your opinion?
