Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has pledged to cut long term net migration in half, to about 235,000 a year, while Peter Dutton wants it as low as 160,000 next financial year leaving many observers wondering if the next election is a vote on migration?

The issue was the focus of today’s National Press Club, featuring Melbourne University Deputy Vice Chancellor Michael Wesley, and former deputy secretary of the Department of Immigration, Abul Rizvi.
