Evil is so painful that some people think we'd be better off without it. They blame God for giving it to us. But God has His purposes. His ways are above our ways and sometimes they are beyond us figuring out. We simply need to trust His goodness and sovereignty. But God did have a purpose in giving us free will and we'd better be fulfilling that purpose.
