The Lord tells us why He will raise up Cyrus, in a prophecy given more than one-hundred-fifty years in advance of its fulfillment! The purpose is to bring about the restoration of the Jews to their land after the seventy year Babylonian captivity. The Lord also makes it clear that He is unique, that He is all-powerful, that He is the one and only Creator, that He can cause both well-being and calamity!
