Surah Al-Baqarah2: 183 -184 “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed/ordained for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may achieve Taqwa(God Consciousness). 

 

Surah Ahzaab33: 35 “Verily, the Muslim men and women, the believing men and women, the men and women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and the women who are patient, the men and the women who are humble (before their Lord), the men and the women who give charity, the men and the women who fast, the men and the women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the women who remember Allah much.  Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).”

God tells us that Job’s story is a reminder for all those who worship God.  (Quran 38:84) When one truly worships God with full submission, it is necessary to have patience.  It is easy to worship for a few days or even weeks, but we must be consistent.  Prayer at night requires patience, fasting requires patience, living with tribulations and trials requires patience.  The life of this world is a test and in order to pass, and be rewarded with Paradise, we need to acquire the patience of Job.

 

Every soul must taste of death, and we try you with evil and with good, for ordeal. And unto us ye will be returned.  Quran 21:35
