From the beginning, Shaytan (satan) has declared open hostility toward humanity — not through brute force, but through: whispers, confusion, false promises, and haram pleasures. Allah makes it clear: Shaytan is your enemy — treat him like one. (Qur’an 35:6)
But how exactly does he work?
The Two Doors Shaytan Uses
Shaytan operates by exploiting two major weaknesses in human beings:
- Shubuhat (Doubts): He sows seeds of uncertainty in our beliefs, creating cracks in faith and distorting our intentions.
- Shahawat (Desires): He draws us toward sin with temptations that feed the ego and weaken self-control.
These aren’t random attacks. They’re calculated and consistent — but not undefeatable.
How to Shut Him Down
Islam provides clear protection against Shaytan’s tactics. Here are the two powerful shields:
1. Knowledge + Certainty
The pursuit of sacred knowledge pushes back the darkness of doubt. The Prophet ﷺ taught that Shaytan flees when a believer sincerely seeks beneficial knowledge. Qur'an and Sunnah anchor the heart and silence confusion.
2. Taqwa + Patience
Conscious awareness of Allah — paired with emotional restraint — gives clarity when Shaytan strikes. As Allah tells us in Surah A'raf (7:201): Those who fear Allah, when touched by a whisper from Shaytan, remember — and suddenly, they see clearly.
Some ways to protect yourself from Satan's whispers.
- After each prayer: Recite Ayat al-Kursi (2:255)
- Morning & evening: Read Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas
- Often say: “A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim”
- Fast regularly: As the Prophet ﷺ said, fasting narrows Shaytan’s influence like blood flow in the body.
And alway's remember Allah is there for you, you just have to turn to him.
“Allah extends His hand at night to accept the repentance of those who sinned during the day, and He extends His hand during the day to accept the repentance of those who sinned at night...”— Sahih Muslim (2759)
