He messed up a bunch, including trying to give away the very woman who was supposed to have his son! Yet through it all, he was called righteous. Why? Because he had faith in God. In this sermon, Pastor Kyle explains this idea and what it means for us today.

Faith in anything plus Jesus will eventually cause your faith to crumble. You faith should be ONLY in Jesus.

Verses 21-26 are viewed my some scholars and pastors as the most important part of Romans. In this sermon, Pastor Kyle says that if we truly understand the righteousness of God and how Jesus Christ has made a way for us to be made righteous, then it will impact how we live out our life. We should aim to be more humble, focus on faith instead of works (in terms of salvation), and pursue unity in the church.

The reason God did not “strike you down” immediately after you sinned is because Jesus Christ was “struck down” on the cross for your sins.

None of us like to hear bad news. But sometimes bad news is necessary so that we can find a solution. If we have a big booger on our nose, we need to be told the bad news so that we can then get that booger off! In Romans 3:9-20, Paul gives some very bad news. That news is that we all stink. We all are so sinful that we cannot make ourselves righteous enough to be with God. This is bad news! But with this news, we can then go to the solution… Jesus Christ.

Things are bad. There is nothing we can do in our own power to make ourselves righteous enough before God.

The is the danger that some religious people fall into, as they default back into their actions instead of turning to Jesus. In chapter 2, Paul addresses people who act well. They are moral, do good things, but do not follow God. Paul wants these people to know that they are bound for trouble if they continue like this. In this sermon, Pastor Kyle gives three descriptions of moral people from the passage and then shares one encouragement and two warnings for people who struggle with living a moral life apart from Jesus.

Jesus didn’t die on the cross so that you would have to strive for salvation. So let’s rest in him.
