In this special donation episode, Mackenzie New-Walker and Shaun Slifer from the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum sit down with J.D. to talk about how a group of passionate volunteers turned a small idea in Matewan into one of the most important grassroots history museums in Appalachia.

They share the story of how the museum began, born out of a desire to tell the true story of the coalfield uprisings, and how it’s grown over the past 10 years into a nationally recognized center for labor history, community memory, and cultural preservation. From preserving artifacts to building relationships with local families, this is a conversation about why history still matters, especially in places where it was almost erased.
