Tanel Jäppinen had been working in sales since he was 20 years old. However, when he became a father, he walked away from his career to start blogging about parenthood and fatherhood, struggling to launch a podcast along the way. After a lack of initial success, he returned to work.
Over the next year, Tanel found a new niche to help address the challenges and struggles he faced as a parent. Now, he helps other parents form genuine, authentic relationships with their kids through his 12-month peaceful parenting membership. Unlike his previous projects, he was able to quickly build a Facebook following, a large mailing list, and a significant subscriber base — even making use of his previous sales skills along the way to build momentum.
Tanel joins the podcast to talk about how his initial struggles helped him to find his true audience, getting over imposter syndrome, and using the tools that you already have in your toolkit to find success in new ways.

As she was designing her first membership site, Nancy Case received a piece of advice: launch a membership around something you already have going on. She did just that, and now sells thousands of pounds of gourmet salt water taffy through a membership box service called Taffy 2 You. She sends her subscribers three bags of taffy a month - one for eating, one for sharing, and one for gifting and giving, organically growing her subscriber base along the way.
However, Nancy wasn't always certain that something so niche could find a mass audience. Relying on both her friends to hold her accountable and a handful of marketing techniques, she was able to go from soft-launching with a small audience of buyers to having a waitlist for new subscribers, all of whom love to gift, give, and eat gourmet saltwater taffy.
Today, Nancy joins the podcast to talk about why the membership club model can work for almost anything, the power of memory and storytelling, and why you never need to worry about being perfect.

In 2017, after running a business farming organic vegetables on a large scale, Michael Kilpatrick came to a realization: there's a massive need for great education in the farming industry. Many aspiring farmers know how to grow vegetables, but few understand how to market or sell their products, build businesses, hire teams, and manage people.
He founded In The Field Consultants to help independent, organic farmers succeed in the United States, where the agriculture industry is far more supportive of massive monocrop farms. After realizing that he was providing the same resources and tools to so many of his clients, he launched a membership program. He currently serves about 170 farmers internationally, many of whom have doubled their year-to-year revenue without spending more hours on their farms. His membership service allows him to bring in a recurring revenue stream while providing greater value to his clients — and allowing him more time with his young family.
Today, Michael joins the podcast to talk about the unique challenges that so many independent farmers face, how he leveraged his unique combination of skills to launch his membership service, and how he scaled in the era of Blue Apron and Amazon Fresh.

Aprille Reed is the founder of the Webinar Club — a membership site that helps coaches, consultants, and entrepreneurs transform their businesses and attract high-ticket clients by using webinars to transform their services from one-to-one into one-to-many.
Before she launched her subscription service, Aprille was a coach herself who struggled to grow her own practice, living through the feast-or-famine cycles that many entrepreneurs unfortunately know so well. She discovered that by moving to a membership model, she was able to bring in reliable monthly revenue and continue to provide great services for a highly satisfied, ever growing client base.
Today, Aprille joins the podcast to share the story of how she built and launched the Webinar Club with just an idea and an intention. You'll learn about how she created her program around her clients' needs in real-time, how she inspired many of her clients to move to membership-driven models for their own businesses, and how to power through blown launch dates and pull the trigger to start the business you've always wanted to run.

There is a BIG trend brewing that's revolutionizing the way business is being done. Successful membership sites are helping photographers, dog trainers, meal planners, teachers, musicians, artists, and so many more people all over the world develop new skills, get healthier, and live happier, more effective lives.
With our signature training course, TRIBE, we serve thousands of successful people who own membership sites - and we've always wanted to share not just the incredible results that they've gotten, but also their stories. We want to show people how they achieved it, the ripple effect that their work has on the people they serve, and why we're so proud of our TRIBE.
That's why we're launching our new podcast, It's a TRIBE Thing. Your host, Shelli Varela, is a fellow TRIBEr, and she's had powerful, vulnerable conversations with incredible people about launching and running membership sites. We're excited to give you the opportunity to peek under the hood with her, discover the powerful insights our TRIBErs have used to transform their businesses (and their lives), and maybe even give you (or someone you know) the push to launch a membership site of your own.
