There is so much talk about narcissism lately, but what is it really? How do people become narcissistic? And how do their actions affect those they have no regard for? Why are some people drawn to them and remain under their influence, yet some are able to break free? There are big lessons to learn from narcissism, especially how they are able to disempower, scam, and manipulate so many. Most importantly, do narcissists mirror something to us?

My co-host and student, Charlie Lotinja, survived being raised by a narcissistic mother and was under the influence of a cult run by a narcissistic man. It took years to completely break free from living under their control, and she’s made it her moral duty to end the generational pattern with her young daughter. She now openly shares her success story, the inner work that revealed how her past lives influenced this life. Many think that only vulnerable, needy people get sucked into cults, and it happens unknowingly or against their will. There are even some who choose life in a cult, thinking it’s a positive, empowering choice even if they witness what’s really going on. It’s difficult to imagine why someone would want their life to be controlled by a narcissist. Why would they still choose to stay? What tactics convince them to stay? And, are there spiritual lessons to be gained from their experience?

My co-host, Azyzza Prieste, was brought into a cult as a small child, and even then, she clearly saw what was happening. When she was finally able to disconnect, she began doing extensive research on cults, concluding that our culture is actually “cult-ish.” It became her mission to help others see the truth and find the strength to leave.
